In 1950, the 278th Regiment of the 93rd Division of the Kuomintang Eighth Army and the 709th Regiment of the 227th Division fled into Burma on the Border between China and Burma, in pursuit of our army. This area is commonly known as the "Golden Triangle".
This remnant of the Kuomintang troops of more than a thousand people took advantage of the natural advantages of the high mountains and long roads, heavy mountains, sparse residents, and most of them under the cover of primitive forests to take root here. The Burmese authorities were naturally very angry about the presence of this invading group of foreign military forces and sent troops to clear and suppress them. However, this group of desperate remnants of the army withstood the attack of more than 10,000 regular troops of the Burmese army.
When old Chiang Kai-shek, who had been defeated in Taiwan, heard the news, he was very happy, and he felt that this was the best base for him to counterattack the mainland. As a result, after the operation of Lao Chiang Kai-shek, the number of Kuomintang troops in this area reached more than 20,000 people. The Burmese authorities brought this matter to the United Nations, and the United States and Chiang Kai-shek, under international pressure, withdrew all these remnants to Taiwan in 1953, but still left many remnants of soldiers.
Two years later, the reluctant old Chiang sent Liu Yuanlin, former deputy commander of the Eighth Army, to this area to search for the remnants, and after two years of painstaking management, he expanded the remnants to more than 3,000 and airlifted 400 special forces from Taiwan as a base for his counterattack on the mainland.

Liu Yuanlin is a native of Cixi, Zhejiang, born in 1906, graduated from the fourth phase of the Whampoa Military Academy, and is always a classmate of Lin of our army. Cixi and Fenghua both belonged to Ningbo, and they were half fellow villagers with Lao Jiang, so after the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, they had been working in Lao Jiang's attendant room, successively serving as deputy regimental commander of the colonel of the guard regiment, major general leader, deputy chief of the guard, and other positions, and only in 1949 were he transferred to the deputy commander of the Eighth Army.
After Liu Yuanlin was sent to northern Burma, the power was expanded, and the Burmese army had no way to control their occupation, so it had to ask our army to cross the border to participate in the clearance and suppression, although our army launched a powerful offensive and achieved certain results, capturing 1 division commander alive, killing 1 division commander, and assisting the Burmese army to liberate more than 30,000 square kilometers of land, but still failed to achieve the expected results. Why? The main reason is that the Burmese army is not their opponent at all, and even if it is besieged by Liu Yuanlin, it still needs our army to rescue them.
However, under the strong offensive of our army, Liu Yuanlin was still afraid of one, and they first withdrew their headquarters to Laos and finally to Taiwan.
After Liu Yuanlin returned to Taiwan, he mainly engaged in the study of the art of war, and wrote "The First Draft of Sun Tzu's New School Interpretation", and died in 1997 at the age of 91.
