Wang Yachen (1894--1983), a native of Hangzhou, Zhejiang, was originally from Taiping, Anhui (now Huangshan). In 1915, he and Chen Baoyi and others formed China's first painting society organization "Oriental Painting Society". In 1916, he went to Japan to study, graduated from the Western Painting Department of the Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts in 1921, and returned to China in the same year, where he was hired as a professor and director of the Shanghai Art Academy. From 1928 to 1931, he went to Europe for an art expedition, and after returning to China, he served as the provost of the New Art College and the principal of the Xinhua Art Normal School. In 1947, he went to the United States to give lectures and held a painting exhibition to disseminate Chinese painting, which lasted for more than 30 years.
