In 1962, Professor Tang Yunpeng from Shanghai Medical College was appointed to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical College to form a neurology major. Where there is hard work, there is a harvest. Since the 1980s, under the leadership of Professor Tang Yunpeng and Professor Wei Yunzhi, the neurology major has gradually grown into an important part of internal medicine, with 15 beds. In addition to being responsible for the teaching, internship and internship tasks of the undergraduate theology of the second department of Chongqing Medical College, he also undertakes the task of treating ischemic cerebrovascular diseases, cerebral hemorrhage, epilepsy, encephalitis, meningitis and other diseases in the yuzhong Peninsula in the main urban area, and carries out EEG and transcranial Doppler ultrasound examination, laying a solid foundation for the creation of the department.
In 1999, Professor Hu Changlin, a well-known expert, doctoral supervisor and recipient of the national special allowance, came to the hospital and founded the Department of Neurology. This year, under the presidency of Professor Hu Changlin and the specific implementation of Deputy Director Chen Yangmei, the department took the lead in carrying out hard channel puncture treatment of hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage in the western region, becoming one of the earliest hospitals in China to carry out this technology, and holding a national new technology study class.
In order to improve the diagnostic technology of nervous system diseases, in 2001, the department purchased a myoelectric evoked potentiometer, Professor Chen Yangmei went to Peking University Hospital of Beijing Medical University for further study, and successfully carried out electromyography, nerve conduction velocity, SEP, BAEP, VEP examination, these examinations have become one of the conventional and basic technologies for the diagnosis of neurological diseases.
In 2003, Professor Chen Yangmei and Dr. Xiang Ming took the lead in carrying out DSA cerebral angiography, carotid artery stenting, carotid artery stenting under the brain protection device, etc. in the department, which made the department a new level of treatment technology for ischemic cerebrovascular diseases, and there are now mature neurointerventional teams, including Professor Luo Haiyan, Associate Professor Song Min and Deputy Chief Physician Zhang Jie, Dr. Li Gongbo, Dr. Zhang Yuqing, etc. In the same year, Professor Hu Changlin edited the "Guidelines for the Standardized Treatment of Minimally Invasive Removal of Intracranial Hematomas" edited by Professor Chen Yangmei, which became the basic reading material for neurologists in hospitals carrying out this technology nationwide, which greatly improved the popularity of the department in the city and even the whole country.
In 2006, Professor Chen Yangmei was responsible for presiding over the work of the department, and under his leadership, the technical force of the department was more abundant.

In order to promote the development of the discipline, Professor Chen Yangmei has successively set up sub-specialties, including cerebrovascular disease and neurointervensis, epilepsy and sleep disorders, Parkinson's disease and movement disorders, neuropsychology and dementia, nerve serious disease, nerve infection and immunity, etc., and carried out ultrasound, myoelectrically guided botulinum toxin treatment of dystonia, multidisciplinary team diagnosis and treatment of vertigo-related diseases, muscle biopsy and video EEG, neuroelectrophy technology, etc. Among them, cerebrovascular disease and neurointervention, epilepsy and sleep disorders, Parkinson's disease and movement disorders, neuropsychology and dementia have developed into mature sub-specialties, and have a leading advantage in diagnosis and treatment.
Sub-specialties have developed vigorously, and clinical practices have continued to ride the wind and waves and forge ahead. In terms of cerebrovascular disease and neurointervention, as an "advanced stroke center", the department can carry out arteriovenous thrombolysis, emergency mechanical thrombolysis, bridging thrombolysis, etc. of acute cerebrovascular disease, as well as difficult interventional treatments such as chronic stenosis or occlusion opening of internal and external intracranial arteries, balloon dilation, and stenting. For diseases such as cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, hypertension and cerebral hemorrhage, a multidisciplinary MDT team is set up, which can combine neurosurgery and rehabilitation medicine to carry out minimally invasive treatment of cerebral hemorrhage and early rehabilitation treatment of stroke, which not only meets the needs of patients, but also achieves good social benefits.
In terms of epilepsy and sleep disorders, as the epilepsy sub-center of the Chinese Anti-Epilepsy Association, the department treats nearly 1,000 epilepsy patients and nearly 10,000 sleep disorders every year. There are epilepsy specialist wards and independent EEG monitoring centers, and the relevant auxiliary departments including neuroelectrophysiology, neuroimaging, and rehabilitation medicine are all Chongqing medical quality control centers, which have a leading position in technology in the region.
Parkinson's disease and movement disorders sub-specialty, has established a sound clinical database and biological sample bank, and opened a Parkinson's disease outpatient clinic, the whole process of patients for refined and individualized management. The team also led the establishment of the relevant MDT team, and has now routinely carried out DBS surgery for Parkinson's disease, and completed the assessment of brain network damage in more than 300 Parkinson's patients, occupying a leading position in Chongqing and gradually enjoying a certain reputation in the west.
In addition, neuropsychology and dementia are also one of the dominant sub-specialties. Relying on the memory clinic and neuropsychological measurement room opened, more than 20 sessions of cognitive rehabilitation training camps for dementia patients have been held for many consecutive years, and the all-round service level of prevention, diagnosis and treatment and rehabilitation of dementia and neuropsychological related diseases has obvious regional advantages. In the past 10 years, it has established a clinical cohort of more than 500 patients with cognitive impairment, and has undertaken a number of large-scale clinical drug trials related to dementia, accumulating a lot of experience.

After hard work and development, the department has formed a clinical specialty composed of a specialist ward, a neurological intensive care ward, a neuroelectrophysiological diagnosis center, a neurological rehabilitation room, etc., with sophisticated equipment, advanced diagnosis and treatment technology, complete structure, and comprehensive development of medical education and research. At present, there are 180 beds in Yuzhong Campus and Jiangnan Branch, 31 doctors, 21 doctors, 8 professors/chief physicians, 7 associate professors/deputy chief physicians, 10 attending physicians/lecturers; 1 recipient of special government allowances of the State Council, 2 academic and technical leaders of neurology in Chongqing, 1 candidate for the second level of the Chongqing 322 Talent Project, 3 doctoral supervisors, and 9 master supervisors.
In order to strive to improve the medical technology level of general medical staff, the department has always attached importance to talent training, has sent doctors to study and study at home and abroad, there are currently Professor Chen Yangmei and Chen Lifen, Li Xiaofeng and many other doctors from the United States to study for more than a year or more and return to China. Clinical, teaching and scientific research are the "troika" that promotes the development of disciplines. From the beginning of the establishment of the department, the department has established a research center for cerebrovascular diseases and epilepsy, adhered to scientific research to solve practical problems as the starting point, and closely combined with clinical practice. In terms of cerebrovascular diseases, around the pathophysiology of cerebral hemorrhage, such as edema and ischemia around the hematoma, the expansion of early hematoma, damage and protection of neurons, etc., in-depth research has been carried out, forming a unique research direction, and has won many awards such as scientific and technological achievements of the Ministry of Health and the National Science and Technology Progress Award. In 2008, Professor Hu Changlin won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award for his research on cerebral hemorrhage.
In terms of epilepsy, not only has certain achievements been made, but also the research on refractory epilepsy is also unique. In order to continue to give full play to her advantages, Professor Chen Yangmei focused on the clinical and basic research of epilepsy and neuroleptic diseases, and won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award (2008), the first prize of the Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress Award (2007), the first prize of Sichuan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award (1995), the third prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award (1996), the second prize of Chongqing Science and Technology Progress Award (2007), and the third prize of Guizhou Province Science and Technology Progress Award (2017). He has published more than 200 epilepsy-related research papers as the first or corresponding author, edited "Epilepsy Therapy" in 2004, edited "Analysis of Difficult Cases of Neurology" (People's Medical Publishing House) in 2016, and participated in the editing of 26 epilepsy-related monographs. After continuous research and accumulation, the department has now grown into an important scientific research and innovation base for neuroscience of the University of Major Medicine.

In the 2nd to 4th years, we will initially complete the construction of the talent team, regularly carry out online and offline teaching activities, carry out clinical and scientific research related work, start the operation of the database, complete the construction of the networked cerebrovascular disease diagnosis and treatment technology support platform, the networked epilepsy center, and the neuroelectrophysiology center, break through high-quality clinical research results, and fully complete the systematic reform of organ system integration teaching.
