"New with old"? Volkswagen's new electric vehicle factory will use Tesla as a template

On December 9, Volkswagen's Supervisory Board approved a plan to build a new electric vehicle plant near its headquarters plant in Wolfsburg, which will produce trinity, the flagship model of the Volkswagen brand, which will be equipped with advanced autonomous driving technology.

Christian Vollmer, head of production at Volkswagen, said Volkswagen will decide the exact location of the plant as early as the next few weeks and will complete the plant within three years. "We won't be building the Trinity plant for more than three years." Tesla's goal is to build the Berlin factory within two years, which means that the construction time of the plant should only be slightly longer than Tesla's Berlin factory.

Vollmer said that once the location of the plant is determined, construction can begin quickly. "Then, according to the current plan, the plant should be completed in 2025 in order to put the plant on schedule and deliver new cars in 2026."
