But in fact, he was a famous general in the New Fourth Army, and at the beginning of the establishment of the New Fourth Army, there were only four detachments and eight regiments, and Zhou Junming was one of the regimental commanders.
Compared with the defense of the half-tower, Zhou Junming also has a more legendary experience, that is, he has developed a Red Army guerrilla of 7 people into a large army of more than 1200 people in a year's time, which is a miracle, and today we will talk about this story. Zhou Junming was a native of Qishan, Henan, and served as a battalion commander under Feng Yuxiang in his early years.
At the end of 1931, Zhou Junming joined the Red Army with Zhao Bosheng and Dong Zhentang and others as regimental commanders. Later, he was sent back to his hometown by his superiors to carry out work, and successively served as the secretary of the CPC Queshan County CPC Committee, a member of the Henan Provincial CPC Committee, a member of the Eyu Border Work Committee, and the director of the Military Department of the Yu'e Border Provincial CPC Committee. In early January 1936, Zhou Junming came to work in the Tiemushan area at the junction of Xinyang, Qishan, Tongbai and Biyang counties, and after more than two months of hard work, established 3 party branches and a district committee, and established a Red Army guerrilla group.
At that time, there were only 7 members of this guerrilla group, namely Zhang Xingjiang, secretary of the Eyu Border Provincial CPC Committee, Wang Guofu, who had received guerrilla training in the Central Soviet Region, Kang Chun, a poor peasant, Wang Xintai, secretary of the district party committee, Wu Hengshan, an activist, and Lao Wang and Zhou Junming, wounded left behind by the Long March of the 25th Red Army. There were only three guns, one was made in Hanyang, one was a pout, and the other was an octoon pistol, and the bullets were only a pitiful dozen rounds. After the establishment of the guerrilla group, Wang Guofu served as the captain and Zhou Junming served as the instructor.
The influence of the guerrillas in the local area spread at once, and many poor peasants rushed to participate, and the ranks soon grew to one hundred and ten people. After that, Zhou Junming led this team to fight bullies, fight dirt fences, and fight bandits, and its influence continued to expand, and even young and middle-aged people from several nearby counties rushed to join the army, and some intermediate forces also sent people to contact Zhou Junming and ask to join the Red Army.
As a result, in just over a year, this guerrilla group of only 7 people developed into a large force of more than 1,200 people and was renamed the Henan Anti-Japanese Independent Regiment. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Henan Anti-Japanese Independent Regiment was reorganized into the Eighth Regiment of the Fourth Detachment of the New Fourth Army, with Zhou Junming as the regimental commander and leading his troops to the east to resist Japan. Since then, he has successively served as chief of staff of the Second Division of the New Fourth Army, commander of the Huainan Military Region, chief of staff of the Central China Military Region, and deputy chief of staff of the East China Military Region. Zhou Junming loves sports, especially ice skating. In 1996, at the age of 94, he was accompanied by his family to skate in Bayi Lake, and because he was too old to stand and slide, he skated on an ice bike, and his love for sports was evident. Zhou Junming died in Zhengzhou in November 2003 at the age of 102.
