Reschke recalls: "The two of us were clear at the time that we had to put every effort into bringing Kimmich to Munich. Before finally signing the contract, the two of us watched almost every game at Leipzig, examining Kimmich. ”

Eventually, Reschke and Nepe persuaded all the decision makers to bring in Kimmich, a decision supported by Bayern manager Pep Guardiola and sports director Summerle.

Kimmich, who debuted at the Stuttgart academy, was playing for Leipzig at the time, and Stuttgart completed a deal with Bayern after activating the buy-back clause for a transfer fee of around 8.5 million euros.
