Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said there was no guarantee that Hamilton would continue to drive F1.

Wolff also said Hamilton and the entire team were "disillusioned" with the ending of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, saying they would never be able to cross it.

At last Sunday's F1 year-end Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Hamilton was overtaken by Verstappen in the final moments and lost the title. He also missed the chance to surpass Schumacher (7 times) to become the player with the most year-end championships for Formula 1 drivers.
