Lexus yesterday showed us the entire range of pure electric models, while announcing its electrification strategy for the next decade. The Japanese automaker today unveiled a preview of the all-electric RZ, which will debut in 2022.
While the RZ's exterior design was fully exposed yesterday, with the new trailer, Lexus gives us a close look at the front and rear of the final production model, or more precisely, the trim of the RZ 450e.
Naturally, the RZ 450e's design has eased up with the LF-Z electric concept car released earlier this year, which heralds an electric SUV. The headlights look more traditional, the silhouette is less futuristic, and the overlay design on the bumpers and wheel arches is simpler.
However, the RZ retains several features, such as a protruding nose with a full-coverage spindle grille, dynamic lines on the silhouette, coupe-style roof lines, and high-level full-width LED taillights. The transparent central fin may have disappeared, but the RZ got a set of spoilers that looked like horns, as well as another ducktail spoiler integrated on the tailgate. Overall, the tail is similar in shape to the BMW X6, but in a more determined way.
The Lexus RZ 450e is based on the e-TNGA architecture, like the Toyota bZ4x and Subaru Soltera. It will be equipped with dual electric motors and will feature a new Direct4 all-wheel drive system with advanced torque vectoring capabilities. Thanks to a 90 kWh lithium-ion battery, the concept car has a range of 600 km (373 miles), and the production version is expected to be closely related to it.
The trailer doesn't include any information about the release date, but judging by the images that have come to light, it's expected to be released soon. It has been confirmed earlier that the Lexus RZ 450e will enter the market in 2022, and competitors will include tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback, Genice GV60 and others.
