All indications show that unlike other car manufacturers who are desperately trying to ensure year-end delivery and get a good financial report, Musk seems to be planning to completely "lie flat" in this matter.
But for businessmen, never look at what they say, but look at what they do. On the other side of Musk's frequent "weakness", Tesla is actually expanding the market with full horsepower. How do they do it? Let the kung fu car take everyone to see it together.
(1) AmD is standard in the whole department, and so on, and the party wants to win?
In fact, behind Musk's weakness and "lying flat", Tesla is not idle. According to the latest news, the 2022 Model 3 and Model Y will be equipped with AMD chips in all series, and will be fully upgraded.
First of all, this AMD is the AMD that computer enthusiasts are familiar with AMD YES, and the new Tesla will be equipped with AMD Ryzen chips, replacing the existing Intel Atom chips.
How big is this improvement? Put it this way, now many domestic electric vehicles claim to use Qualcomm 8155 vehicle specification chip, representing the highest level of computing power. Tesla's AMD Ryzen has almost 2 times the CPU performance of the Qualcomm 8155 and 1.5 times more GPU performance. Compared with the current second-generation car and machine system, the operating capacity has been increased from 1.6GHz to 3.4GHz.
Considering that Tesla's in-vehicle infotainment system, head-up display system and car networking system are highly dependent on chip computing power, stronger chips are still immediate for the improvement of driving experience.
And Tesla has also quietly done a lot of additions, such as the recently delivered domestic Model Y high-performance version, which has added a series of configurations such as backdoor laminated glass, infrared in-car cameras, super speakers, and low-voltage lithium-ion batteries. In addition to upgrading the latest AMD chips, Tesla has recently done a big thing, that is, "kill" the radar. Because Musk believes that the final autonomous driving should be the same as human drivers, through pure vision systems to provide driving guidance. Humans drive by a combination of vision and intelligence, and smart cars also only need cameras and AI to complete this function.
In theory, this is true, the camera can "see" farther and clearer than humans, and the development of AI technology can theoretically be more accurate than human judgment. But Musk's bold idea still caused an uproar, and many Tesla engineers firmly opposed it, believing that the perception ability of the camera alone cannot achieve true automatic driving, and it will definitely require radar, lidar and other perception technologies.
But from the current situation, the arm can not twist the thigh. According to the latest information, in the latest batch of Tesla FSD autopilot public beta, although there is still radar in the vehicle hardware, the automatic system itself has not collected signals from the radar end, that is, the radar that is considered to be essential hardware has been "driven empty" in the new Tesla autopilot system.
Today, when Xiaopeng, Weilai, and Huawei are vigorously developing lidar technology, Tesla seems to be once again standing against all car companies. In particular, the limitations of the current pure vision system are still relatively large, such as the ability to recognize in some special weather will decline, if there is no radar assistance, whether it can complete all the actions, is to be marked with a question mark.
But from another perspective, the "kick-off" radar system greatly reduces the cost, and the pure vision system can present a specific data to the on-board computer, which greatly reduces the computational pressure of automatic driving. It is equivalent to receiving a series of sensor signals in the past, but now it only uses one visual signal. Theoretically, after the system is really mature, it is indeed low cost and simpler operation. In fact, Tesla's newly released FSD Beta V10 version has used a pure vision system, and its current performance is not bad.
(3) 4680 battery yield rate has been 80%, and then fight mileage anxiety?
On November 19, the 2022 Model 3 rear-wheel drive version was officially launched, compared with the old model, its biggest change is that the endurance has been "increased", from the original 468km to 556km.
When I first saw this data, Kung Fu Car was shocked, thinking that Tesla had used a 4680 battery, otherwise it could not explain why the endurance increased so much at once. After a look, it turned out that Tesla replaced the NEDC working life with the CLTC working life, the "moisture" increased, of course, the battery capacity was also increased from the previous 55kWh to 60kWh, but this improvement was not enough to contribute to the increase of 88km.
Although this increase is a bit "virtual", it does not mean that Tesla has no action on the power battery. In fact, the yield of its new 4680 electrodeless ear battery has increased from the previous 20% to 80%, and the official statement is that it can already be used for trial production vehicles.
Of course, if you want to mass-produce, the yield rate must be more than 90%, if you want to have the advantage of scale and low cost, the yield rate must be more than 99%. But according to Tesla's current actions, it is entirely possible to achieve mass production before the third quarter of next year.
4680 electrodeless ear battery is considered to be Tesla's killer skill, it through the flat management system to reduce the volume of the battery, through the design of the electrodeless ear to make the conductive area become larger, so that both good transmission efficiency, but also to prevent the battery from overheating. According to Tesla's official data, the single capacity of the 4680 battery cell is 5 times higher than that of the 2170, and due to the drying out of the module and the polar ear, there will be up to 16% endurance gain.
The point is that after large-scale improvements to the battery structure, the manufacturing and assembly costs of the 4680 battery have dropped dramatically, and it is estimated that the cost per kWh can be reduced by 14%.
