Some past events are like a seed, taking root and sprouting in the heart field, allowing the passage of time and the vicissitudes of the world, but it is timeless and lingering.
Gu Xiancheng, a talented man at the end of the Ming Dynasty, once wrote a couplet, which is still hanging in the Donglin Academy in Wuxi, although it has been a long time, but in the southern Jiangsu area, it is a household name.
When it was about to be forgotten, the writer Manan Estate quoted, explained and played it in "Yanshan Night Talk", and gave it a deeper meaning, and since then this couplet has become famous at home and abroad, and its influence has been quite large. The following is a couplet from the Ming Dynasty, which can be recited since childhood, but contains a warm past.
Gu Xiancheng was born into a poor peasant family, and when he first learned to walk, his younger brother Gu Yuncheng was added to the family. Because of the difficulties of life, the father carried two children in two baskets, took his wife, and went out to earn a living together. One day at noon, they walked to a street in Jinggao Town, where the husband put his burden on the side of the road to zhang luo to eat, while the wife stayed behind to take care of the children.
At this time, an old man with a crane hair and a childlike face came from the street, he looked at the two smart and cute children in the basket, touched his beard, and said humorously: "One load and two pees." The child's mother listened to the old man's words, was surprised, and immediately thanked him.
Originally, in the Wuxi dialect, "urine" and "book" are homophones. Gu Xiancheng's mother understood "one load and two pees" as "one burden and two Shangshu". Doesn't that mean that the two children will become high officials in the future? The old man's jokes turned out to be a good word of mouth. So the couple decided to settle down in Jinggao, and cut back on food and clothing, and did everything possible to provide children with education.
In the blink of an eye, Gu Xiancheng had grown to fifteen years old, and one afternoon in the early summer of that year, the brothers went to swim in the Jing River together. Coming to the river, Gu Yuncheng took off his coat and put it on a pine tree, and said casually: A thousand-year-old wood is used as a hanger. Gu Xiancheng immediately echoed: the long river is used as a bathtub. With that, the brothers both jumped into the river.
At this time, a large boat in the river was sailing slowly, and a scholar stood at the bow of the boat and happened to hear the joint words of the two little brothers. He then stopped the ship and prepared to spend the night here.
In the evening, the weather changed, the wind blew the plane trees, the rain hit the new basket, and the sound of Gu Xiancheng's brothers reading was heard in the huts on the shore. The students on the ship listened to the sound of reading and were overjoyed, so they ordered the children to go ashore and ask the brothers to get off the boat for a reunion. They came to the ship, and after the host and guest met, the scholar said: "I wrote an upper link, there is no lower link, I don't know if the two of you can wish for a couple?" ”
"Please sir, please see the upper link." The student said: "The sound of the wind, the sound of rain, the sound of reading, the sound of the ear." The brothers looked at each other and smiled, and immediately replied in unison: "Family affairs, state affairs, world affairs, everything is in mind." ”
Shusheng was devastated and decided to take them to Beijing to study. Later, I learned that this scholar was actually a superintendent of the micro-service visit. In the blink of an eye, twenty years passed quickly, and both the brothers Gu Xiancheng and Gu Yuncheng were recruited. Shun Xiancheng once served as the head of the transfer department, and Gu Yuncheng also served as the head of the ceremonial department, which can be regarded as a veritable burden of two shangshu.
Later, when Gu Xiancheng lectured on Donglin, he changed "everything in the heart" to "everything is concerned", although it is only a word difference, but it reflects the different identities, situations and feelings of the talented son in his later years and youth. In Gu Xiancheng's hometown of Jinggao Town, Wuxi, people say that the lower couplet of this couplet is not as good as the original.
"In the heart" expresses a state of constant concern and unforgettable. "Caring" describes how to express your concern when you think about it, and you don't always keep it in mind. It seems that people still miss the past very much, and like the directness and talent of young talents.
However, no matter what kind of expression, this couplet is reminiscent of the intimate picture of young reading, no matter where you are, no matter how high or low your status, it is unforgettable, giving people warm memories!
