On December 13, 2021, the 2021 China Geography Conference was held in Fuzhou. The conference was co-sponsored by the Geographical Society of China and Fujian Normal University, and hosted by the School of Geographical Sciences of Fujian Normal University and the Fujian Geographical Society. The conference is held in a combination of offline and online. With the theme of "Challenges of the Times, Theoretical Innovation, and Social Practice", the conference was divided into opening ceremony, invited reports, and sub-venue reports.
Fu Bojie, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and vice chairman of the International Geographical Federation, Chen Fahu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, chairman of the Chinese Geographical Society, and director of the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chen Jun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of the National Center for Basic Geographic Information of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Park Shilong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Boya Distinguished Professor of Peking University, Zhang Guoyou, vice president and secretary general of the Chinese Geographical Society, and researcher-level senior engineer of the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and executive director and director of the Chinese Geographical Society. More than 2,300 experts, scholars and students from more than 300 teaching and scientific research institutions at home and abroad, such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, Nanjing University, Wuhan University, Xiamen University, Sichuan University, etc., attended the meeting. At the same time, the conference was broadcast live online through the B station of the Geographical Society of China, and more than 160,000 people from nearly 20 countries and regions watched the opening ceremony and the invited report of the conference online.
At the opening ceremony, Wang Changping, president of Fujian Normal University, Chen Fahu, chairman of the Chinese Geographical Society, and Michael Meadows, president of the International Geographical Federation, delivered speeches respectively. Wang Changping extended a warm welcome to the experts and scholars attending the meeting, and introduced the outstanding achievements of Fujian Normal University in running the school and the discipline of geography, hoping that experts and scholars would focus on the reform, innovation and development of Chinese geography, and share the latest research results in geography disciplines such as global change, ecological civilization construction, rural revitalization, carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.

Chen Fahu said that under the strategic guidance of the "four aspects", the geography community will study and judge the geographical science problems in the overall planning of the two overall situations and the construction of a new development pattern; summarize the latest achievements in the theoretical methods and technical applications of geography; and plan the goal of facing the world's scientific and technological frontiers and serving the global sustainable development. On behalf of the International Geographical Federation, Michael Meadows congratulated the Conference on its convening. He said that the current climate change, biodiversity and global pandemic crises all show that there is a need for a deep and beneficial scientific consensus on human-land relations to ensure that we have a sustainable future. The conference opened 48 sub-venues, and 916 reports were conducted online from the 14th to the 15th. The participating scholars discussed the frontiers, innovations, theories and practical applications of sub-disciplines of geography in the fields of discipline frontiers, economy and society, and ecological environment, and promoted the development and innovation of geographical sciences; in-depth study of economic and social issues such as comprehensive utilization and protection of mountain space, innovation and development of urban and regional management, rural revitalization and urban-rural integration, the "Belt and Road" and inclusive globalization, and coastal island resources and environment and marine spatial planning, so as to promote the prosperity and development of China's economy and society; in view of the multi-scale climate change and risk, The "Double Carbon Target" and the construction of ecological civilization, ecological space protection, biodiversity conservation, ecological protection and restoration strategies, comprehensive assessment of ecosystems, etc., provide suggestions and suggestions for the construction of ecological civilization and beautiful China.
