HDMI 2.0 Virtual HDMI 2.1? The official actually said that there was nothing wrong with it!

HdMI 2.1 standard has been born for more than four years, related products are gradually enriched, but recently some people have responded, found that some manufacturers will HDMI 2.0 specification products marked as HDMI 2.1, more unexpectedly, the authorized organization HDMI Licencing Administrator generously admitted that there is nothing wrong!

The HDMI 2.1 standard greatly increases the transmission bandwidth from 18Gbps to 48Gbps, supports dynamic HDR, audio backhaul channel (eARC), variable refresh rate (VRR), fast media switching (QMS), fast frame transmission (QFT), automatic low latency mode (ALLM), VESA DSC 1.2a and a series of new technologies, which also require new data lines and ultra-low electromagnetic emissions.

On a 24.5-inch 240Hz display from a manufacturer, it is officially equipped with two HDMI 2.1 standard interfaces.

However, the annotation information also pointed out that because of the breakdown of HDMI certification standards, HDMI 2.1 is divided into two protocols, TMDS and FRL, of which the former bandwidth is equivalent to HDMI 2.0, and the HDMI 2.1 interface of this product is the TMDS protocol, with a maximum resolution of 1080p and a maximum refresh rate of 240Hz.

TMDS, FRS itself is indeed not wrong, the former is part of HDMI 2.0, FRS is a necessary premise to achieve higher bandwidth of HDMI 2.1.

But is it easy to cause confusion and misunderstanding in this way?

The authorizing organization HDMI Licencing Administrator responded to this with four points:

1, HDMI 2.0 standard no longer exists, any device should no longer be marked compatible with HDMI 2.0.

2, HDMI 2.0 features are already a subset of HDMI 2.1.

3. All new features of HDMI 2.1 are optional and do not require support, including higher bandwidth.

4. HDMI 2.1 compatible devices must clearly indicate which new features are supported to avoid misunderstandings.

According to this regulation, all HDMI 2.0 devices on the market can claim to support HDMI 2.1, and then use small print to note in the corner.

This can't help but remind people of the confusing USB 3.2 series naming, but the good guys distinguish between USB 3.2 Gen2x2, USB 3.2 Gen2, USB 3.2 Gen1, and can distinguish that it is not the same, HDMI 2.1 This is too rough.
