At this time, Liu Bei's strength can be said to have reached its peak, so he established himself as the king of Hanzhong. The geographical location of Hanzhong was extremely important, so Liu Bei decided to leave a general to guard Hanzhong to ensure the safety of Hanzhong.
However, Liu Bei did not choose Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, whom he trusted very much. Instead, he chose Wei Yan, who had just returned to the throne, to take up this position. This is equivalent to directly promoting Wei Yanlian by several levels, from the small tooth gate general to the Zhenyuan general. But at this time, Guan Yu, who had always been righteous and confident, why didn't he stand up against Liu Bei's decision? The following are my personal views.
First, Wei Yan had the strength to guard Hanzhong, and it was difficult for him to pose a threat to Guan Yu.

But at this time, Wei Yan obviously did not provoke Guan Yu, Guan Yu's status was higher than Wei Yan's, and in Shu Han he was also more delicious than Wei Yan, so why did he still target Wei Yan who was inferior to himself?
Second, there were not many talents within the Shu Han Dynasty, and Guan Yu was far away in Jingzhou at this time and could not be managed.
During the Battle of Hanzhong, Liu Bei lost a lot of talent. Among the trustworthy subordinates, Huang Zhong was old, Zhang Fei was reckless, and Zhao Yun needed to protect Liu Bei's personal safety, all of which could not be used. Although Ma Chao has the ability to guard Hanzhong, he has surrendered many times, and his loyalty has yet to be examined.
The talents of the new generation are only Liu Feng, Guan Ping, Li Yan and Wei Yan. At this time, Liu Feng was guarding Shangyong in zhenshou, Guan Ping was honed under his father Guan Yu, and Li Yan was also in Zhenshou Nanzhong. Only Wei Yan, who had no heavy duties, had the ability to stand alone. It was also because there were not many internal talents that Liu Bei would reuse Wei Yan.
At this time, Guan Yu, even if he wanted to obstruct this matter, I am afraid that it would not play a great role. As early as when Liu Bei entered Sichuan, he appointed Guan Yu as the Taishou of Xiangyang and stayed in Jingzhou with Zhuge Liang. After Liu Bei established himself as the King of Hanzhong, he ordered Guan Yu to be a former general and oversee jingzhou. To put it simply, Zhang Fei's personality is not mature and stable enough, suitable for leading soldiers to fight, but not suitable for defending territory. Guan Yu and Liu Bei Zhang Fei have known each other for a long time, and they are also very clear about Liu Bei's ability to know people and good appointments, and they will not be unaware of Liu Bei's plans at this time. Although Zhang Fei was more trusted by Liu Bei than Wei Yan, he had a better relationship with Liu Bei. Zhang Fei's loyalty and martial arts ability are naturally superior, far surpassing Wei Yan, but Wei Yan's personality is far better than Zhang Fei's reckless nature.
