Previously, the Beijing News published an investigative report "Undercover Starbucks: Coffee Ingredients Continue to Sell After Expiration, Shelf Life Is Arbitrarily Changed, Scrapped Cakes Are Put on the Shelves Again", exposing that there are a variety of health safety hazards in two Starbucks stores in Wuxi City, Zhenze Road Store and Changxing Building Store: Ingredients continue to be used after expiration, and are sold as a number of best-selling drinks; supervisors and clerks "teach by example" to tamper with shelf life, and some ingredients are artificially "extended" for a week; cakes that promise to "not stay overnight after opening" are secretly put on the shelves the next day.
On the morning of the 13th, the Beijing News reporter called the Food Business Department of the Market Supervision and Administration Bureau of Xinwu District, Wuxi City, and a staff member said that they had investigated and collected evidence at the site of the Starbucks Zhenze Road store, and the details of the investigation would be announced according to the situation; the Wuxi Economic Development Zone Market Supervision and Administration Bureau also told reporters that the staff had rushed to the Starbucks Changxing Building Store for on-site investigation. We have followed the reports about two Starbucks stores in Wuxi. We are deeply shocked by the food safety issues covered in the report. We are highly concerned about this incident, and have closed these two stores at the first time and immediately launched an in-depth investigation.
