This is based on a real incident on the battlefield of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, telling the story of the volunteer army driver Da Lao Guo who lost a cart of sorghum rice and transported back a cart of waste because of an accident, but was awarded the second class merit.

The prototype of Da Lao Guo was a driver of the 5th Company of the 18th Automobile Regiment of the 38th Army of the Volunteer Army, whose real name was Song Huiguo. One night in November 1951, he and his comrades were ordered to transport a shipment of sorghum rice from Yangde to the front. Sorghum rice was one of the main rations of the volunteer army at that time, and was fried and ground with soybeans and corn, and salt was added to make fried noodles, which was easy to transport, store and carry.
Song Huiguo and his comrades-in-arms drove forward to the front line together, and when they reached a short distance from their destination, the air defense post suddenly fired a warning shot: The enemy plane is coming, turn off the lights! Song Huiguo was already familiar with this routine, and he immediately turned off the headlights and slowly drove forward feeling the darkness.

When passing through an intersection, because there was no light, Song Huiguo suddenly drove the wrong way, deviated from the position of the volunteer army, and drove in another direction. Perhaps for this reason, Song Huiguo was only awarded the second class merit.
This legendary experience of Song Huiguo soon spread among the volunteer army, and after hearing about it, the famous song writer Wang Guishan used his deeds as a prototype to create the Shandong quick book "A Cart of Sorghum Rice", which became a household name for a time.
