From "seeing clearly" to "seeing deeply", Bosheng Medical 3D electronic abdominal endoscopy leads the development of the industry

Endoscopy is like the eyes of surgeons, with the trend of minimally invasive surgical development, a variety of application scenarios put forward higher requirements for endoscopic imaging technology. However, under the limitation of technology and cost, the market share of domestic products is still relatively low, how to let doctors from "see clearly" to "see deeply", Bosheng Medical has made breakthroughs in cutting-edge technologies such as 3D medical images.

3D has become a trend in abdominal endoscopy

In the field of surgery, the minimally invasive surgical process has become a general trend, which not only minimizes the pain of the patient, but also improves the degree of refinement of the operation. In order to ensure the smooth development of minimally invasive surgery, the clinical application of endoscopy has become more and more popular, and the quality of its core key technologies directly affects the success of surgery.

According to the application scenario, medical endoscopy mainly includes laparoscopy, arthroscopy, otoscopy, nasopharyngoscopy, hysteroscopy, cystoscopy, gastroscope, colonoscopy, etc., and has been widely used in the treatment of different departments and different diseases in the clinic. From 2013 to 2017, the sales of China's medical endoscopy industry increased from 10.2 billion yuan to 19.9 billion yuan, with a compound annual growth rate of 18.23%. In the next 5 years, the market size of the endoscopic industry will continue to maintain a rapid growth rate of 9.25% per year, and is expected to reach 32 billion yuan in 2022.

Bosheng Medical's core product 3D full HD electronic laparoscope belongs to the category of laparoscopy in endoscopy. According to The rough estimate of the number and amount of winning bids for China's laparoscopic products in 2020, in the fourth quarter of 2020, about 580 sets of laparoscopic systems were sold nationwide, with a turnover of about 994 million yuan, an average winning bid price of 2.04 million yuan, and an average purchase price of 1.8 million yuan for a single system.

Among them, the turnover of imported products accounted for about 89.4%, and about 10.6% of domestic products. In terms of the proportion of turnover of classified products, 4K ultra-high-definition laparoscopy accounted for 26.97%, 3D laparoscopy accounted for 17.86%, and FHD laparoscopy accounted for 55.1%. It can be seen that in the competitive landscape of the market, FHD laparoscopy is still the main object of bidding, and due to cost and technical differences, the market for domestic 3D laparoscopy has not yet opened.

Dr. Lu Huihai, chairman of Bosheng Medical, told reporters that with the popularity of endoscopy in minimally invasive surgery, doctors will no longer be satisfied with "seeing clearly", but also put forward the requirement of "seeing deeply", not only to clearly see the surface of human tissue, but also to see the deep relationship between tissues and organs, providing a more accurate image for the surgical process.

"Different from traditional two-dimensional laparoscopes such as 4K and FHD, 3D electronic laparoscopes provide users with depth perception and make up for the shortcomings of two-dimensional images in spatial positioning and hand-eye coordination." 3D laparoscopy can effectively improve the accuracy and completion of surgery, shorten the operation time, reduce the incidence of injury, reduce the amount of intraoperative bleeding, and improve the postoperative recovery level of patients. This is especially evident in the separation of some important blood vessels and tissues, lymph node dissection, suture knotting, and fine anastomosis. 3D has become a trend in abdominal endoscopy. Lu Huihai said.

We have mastered the cutting-edge technology of 3D and 4K images

3D electronic abdominal endoscopy was brought to China by The German Stroz in 2015, and at present, imported brands such as German Stroz, Japan Olympus, and Stryker in the United States occupy more than 90% of the market share and are in an absolute monopoly position.

Due to the imaging characteristics of the 3D imaging system itself, there is a concept of a comfort zone in the current 3D laparoscopy on the market, that is, the distance between the object being observed and the lens should be within an appropriate range, otherwise the observer will produce dizziness discomfort. That said, avoiding visual dizziness is a "golden thread" for the 3D electronic intraperitoneal endoscopic user experience.

The core technology applied for a PCT patent by Lu Huihai breaks the limitations of the comfort zone, and in the application of ultra-short distance /long distance, the three-dimensional algorithm can be automatically adapted, which can enhance the three-dimensional depth while avoiding the dizziness and visual fatigue of the practitioner. This core technology makes Bosheng Medical have a user experience comparable to that of imported brands.

Wang Decai, general manager of Bosheng Medical, told reporters that 3D products actually entered the market very early, and expert consensus was issued twice between 2015 and 2019, and market education was basically completed. "However, the technical realization is difficult, the quality of products is uneven, the growth curve is relatively stable, and 3D procurement accounts for 20% of the overall market for hard mirrors."

Recently, the 3D full HD electronic laparoscope independently developed by Bosheng Medical was approved by the State Food and Drug Administration and officially introduced to the market. This is one of the first institutions in China to obtain the 3D endoscopic medical device registration certificate. The same brand of 4K Ultra HD endoscopic camera system was also approved in August 2021. Some models are compatible with 4K and 3D at the same time in one host, integrating high brightness, highly explicit LED cold light source and 4K/3D full-function video recorder in one, which greatly reduces the one-time procurement cost and post-maintenance cost, and brings the 3D electronic abdominal endoscope to more surgical patients.

Wang Decai said: "Bosheng Medical 3D electronic abdominal endoscopy in the clinical image quality, ease of use and safety have reached the international leading level, and we have obvious advantages in price, with Bosheng Medical as the representative of the domestic brand is expected to break the domestic dual-way 3D endoscopy import monopoly." According to the needs of user experience, Bosheng Medical continues to iterate its own products in the two directions of higher resolution and functional integration, and next year we are expected to launch 3D+ fluorescent new products, which will be an important innovation of 3D laparoscopic domestic equipment. ”
