In April 1939, the 1st Brigade and the 2nd Brigade of the 120th Division of the Eighth Route Army met the division at Qihui Village in Hejian County. More than 800 people of the Yoshida Brigade of the Third Wing of the Japanese 27th Division immediately came to "sweep up."
At dawn on the 23rd, the Japanese army attacked eastward from Thirty Mile Shop, and the 1st Brigade was ordered to wait with the division's direct subordinate unit to annihilate the enemy. Wang Shangrong, commander of the 1st Independent Brigade, and Zhu Huizhao, political commissar, decided that the 715th Regiment would monitor the enemy. The 3rd Battalion of the 716th Regiment garrisoned the village of Qihui.
After the Japanese arrived, they launched a fierce attack on the 3rd Battalion of the 716th Regiment in Qihui Village with heavy artillery fire. Li Wenqing, commander of the 715th Regiment, feared that the 3rd Battalion would suffer losses, immediately led the whole regiment to Qihui Village. The 7th Company charged from the outskirts of the Japanese army and rushed into the village of Qihui to join the 3rd Battalion.
The Japanese army noticed that the main force of the Eighth Route Army was coming, and immediately wanted to flee. The 4th Company quickly blocked their escape route. The Japanese rushed to the village of Zaoziying, but were blocked by the main force of the 715th Regiment.
Wang Shangrong then sent the 3rd Regiment to advance lightly and seize the village of Nanliulu, and together with the 715th Regiment and the 716th Regiment, formed a counter-encirclement of the Japanese army.
The Japanese Yoshida Brigade then concentrated its artillery fire and stormed the position of the 3rd Regiment.
Due to the fierce fire of the Japanese army, Zhu Jikun, political commissar of the 3rd Regiment of the Eighth Route Army, was unfortunately hit by Japanese artillery fire and died of his wounds.
Zhu Hui, the brigade's political commissar, took the news and immediately sent Xing Shixiu, deputy political commissar of the brigade, to nanliulu village to continue to command the 3rd Regiment.
However, an hour later, Yukishi was also injured.
Zhu Hui was so anxious that he braved artillery fire to rush to the 3rd Regiment and took over the command of Xing Shixiu.
Under the command of Zhu Huizhao, the 3rd Regiment fought bravely and repelled several Japanese attacks in a row.
Subsequently, the brigade commander Wang Shangrong readjusted the deployment and attacked the Japanese army with the main force of the brigade, the 715th Regiment. The Japanese once again launched a fierce attack on the 3rd Regiment. Zhu Huizhao said: "It is nearly dusk, and the Japanese army is desperately trying to make an impact. It's a dying struggle. We must resolutely defeat the Japanese army! ”
The fighters bravely rushed to kill, and finally repelled the 9th attack of the Japanese army.
The next day, the 1st Independent Brigade fought with the remnants of the Japanese army, and by dusk on the 25th, more than 800 people of the Japanese Yoshida Brigade were annihilated except for more than 40 people who escaped.
This is the famous Battle of Qihui.
When Chiang Kai-shek heard that Qi would annihilate more than 700 enemy troops, he also sent a telegram of condolences and commendations with pleasure. The deeds of the three political commissars of the Eighth Route Army who went forward to command the war against Japan were also spread as a good story. But Zhu Huizhao said:
"Zhu Jikun is not yet 28 years old, what a pity!"
