On the occasion of the orderly preparations for the Beijing Winter Olympics, the global sports athletes are preparing for the event assiduously, looking forward to coming to China at an early date, on the 6th local time, the US government officially announced the so-called "diplomatic boycott" of the Beijing Winter Olympics, saying that it would not send an official US delegation to attend. Obviously, this is another farce written and directed by US politicians.
Why? Previously, China has clearly stated that it is committed to presenting a simple, safe and wonderful Olympic event for the world. In view of the current severe global epidemic prevention and control situation, as the host country, China has not issued an invitation to US politicians to attend the Beijing Winter Olympics, nor has it planned to invite foreign guests to China on a large scale during the Winter Olympics. Since US politicians have not received invitations, why is there a "diplomatic boycott"? This scene is like some people in life who are not welcomed, do not receive an invitation to the dinner, and then feel that they can't hang on to their faces, so they have to shout "I will not go to the low-end dinner bureau", which is nothing more than creating gimmicks, sensationalism, and forcibly adding drama to themselves.
Not only that, but it's not just a farce, it's an unpopular ugly drama that politicizes sports.
As we all know, the mission of the Olympic Games is to promote world unity through peaceful competition in the sports arena. The Olympic Charter also emphasizes that sports organizations in the Olympic Movement should remain politically neutral and oppose the misuse of sports and athletes for any political or commercial purpose. The Olympic Games have always been a sporting event that people around the world have been waiting for. Especially in the context of the continued outbreak of the new crown epidemic, the world especially needs to tide over the difficulties in a spirit of solidarity and cooperation, and human society needs such a sports event to boost morale more than ever.
This summer, the IOC also deliberately revised the Olympic motto to add "more solidarity" after "faster, higher, stronger", the first revision of the Olympic motto in more than 100 years. The Beijing Winter Olympics also set the theme slogan as "Together to the Future", which shows the determination and courage of people all over the world to work hard together, to tide over difficulties together, and to chase dreams and hopes.
On the other hand, the behavior of US politicians in clamoring for "diplomatic boycott" of the Beijing Winter Olympics seems to be aimed at China, but in fact it hits the big Olympic family. In response to US politicians' ideological and political biases, clamoring to resist and obstruct the sabotage of the Beijing Winter Olympics, IAAF President Sebastian Ko previously said, "International sport is a powerful force for good and should not be used as a foreign policy tool of the government." Boycotting the Beijing Winter Olympics is not only politically counterproductive, it is also harmful to sport. U.S. Olympic and Paralympic President Susan Lyons also stressed that U.S. team athletes should not be treated as "political pawns."
Not only people in the sports world, but also many foreign netizens have also scoffed at the behavior of US politicians. Some netizens wrote: "Boycotting the Olympics is a shameful move, politics and sports should not be confused, which will leave a stain on the game." Peace was the original intent of the Olympic Games, and it is very sad to use it as a tool for political manipulation. ”
In fact, this set of "diplomatic boycott" dramas of US politicians is not only challenging China, but also a tool for coercing allies. However, it is worth noting that although US politicians have "let the wind blow" to the outside world in advance, there are many callers and few responders. At present, only Australian Prime Minister Morrison, who blindly follows the United States, has said that he will boycott the Beijing Winter Olympics, but the president of the Australian Olympic Committee directly said that "athletes will not pay attention to the voices of these politicians".
Predictably, no matter how much US politicians clamor, athletes around the world are using positive preparations to show their attitude: nothing can stop the yearning for the Olympic games. And those so-called "diplomatic boycott" noises will not only not expand the influence of the United States, but will become the laughing stock of the international community.
Letting applause replace noise and laughter, and fair competition replacing contradictions and conflicts, has always been the meaning of the Olympics.
