30 years ago, Omnicom Television Productions adopted a baby and deliberately groomed him to be the protagonist of the world's most popular documentary soap opera "Truman's World", and the company has achieved great success. However, only one person completely unaware of all this is the only protagonist of the play - Truman.
Truman has been living in a small city called Taoyuan Island (actually a huge studio) since he was a child, he is the agent of an insurance company in this small city, Truman seems to live exactly the same life as ordinary people, but he does not know that every second of life there are thousands of cameras facing him, every moment the whole world is watching him, and he does not know that everyone around him, including his wife and friends, is an actor of "Truman's World". Gradually, Truman found that everyone in the company he worked for began to work after he appeared, and that there were the same people and cars on the road near his house every day, and what made him even more unbelievable was that his wife, who claimed to be a doctor and went to the hospital every day, was not a doctor. Truman began to suspect that the world he lived in, including his wife, friends, father, and everyone else, was lying to him, and a kind of fear came from the heart.
He was determined to leave the island, but when he came to the airport, he was told that he did not have a ticket, and when he left by bus, the car broke down, and when he drove out of the island, he was stopped by the security personnel disguised by the staff halfway, falsely claiming that the chemical plant in front of him had been closed. The last way was to leave by boat. However, under the director's arrangement, Truman was very afraid of the sea because of the accident when he was a child, and Truman was desperate.
But Truman did not give up, under the layers of surveillance, he successfully took a small boat to the sea, and his face was full of radiant smiles.
The general director of the program saw that he could not deceive Truman, so he artificially created a storm, hoping to scare Truman back. But Truman replied to him with an attitude of not being free and preferring to die. Finally he reached the border of the studio.
