A statement released by the foundation that runs the church said that on November 29, the 5.5-ton 24.6-foot(7.5-meter) diameter 12-pointed star was lifted to the top of the tower and installed.

The foundation called the star, made of glass and stainless steel, "changed the skyline of Barcelona" and would "bring light and hope". The star will be lit for the first time on December 8.

According to CNN, the unfinished Basilica of the Holy Family was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2005. The church is one of the most complex and time-consuming construction projects ever built, having been designed and built since 1882, but remains unfinished 139 years later.

The Basilica of the Holy Familia is the legacy of the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí, whose unique designs can be found throughout Barcelona.

Since Gaudí's death in a tram accident in 1926, many architects have tried to complete the construction of the church based on Gaudí's original design.

The project was originally scheduled to be completed in 2026, the 100th anniversary of Gaudí's death, but the completion time was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
