Painting records people's spiritual memories, and this memory subjectively divides people's lives into past and present. However, are fantasies and dreams also unknown memories? After all, it always comes to people's minds, déjà vu, if they are separated, but never happened.

If it's too late to find the answer, then it's better to put it in the painting - this issue of "Art Beijing Overview" is about to travel through four illusory worlds to see what we can find in the artist's illusion.

Art's exploration of extinction always makes survival so special that when the viewer perceives the true meaning of "existence" in such works, he often has some ultimate thoughts, such as "where we come from" and "where we will eventually go"...

Li Qili, graduated from the School of Art of Chongqing University with a master's degree, is now a member of the Chongqing Artists Association.

The content depicted by Li Qili is not limited to natural objects, but the experience of life constructed by an imagination that is far beyond reality. Brilliant and changeable colors, mysterious and dreamy scenes, and seemingly non-existent metaphors all interpret its rich and full inner world.

How far it is from that side of the sea to the other side of the mountain—it's just a realistic interval. —Logan Moffat

Crossing the chasm between faith and expression, the artist's exploration of time stems from the invisible connections and collisions in consciousness. As countless connections and collisions are completed, thought derives from substance and emotion, which in turn evolves into the essence of human existence.

Artificial Realism (Partial)

New Zealand painter Logan Moffat graduated from the University of Auckland's School of Fine Arts with a bachelor's degree. He was shortlisted for the New Zealand Adam Portrait Award in 2014 and was runners-up to the award in 2016.

Moffat often conceptualizes the trivialities of life and the memories of the past in his works, which are his reflections on his environment and the repeated consideration of the boundaries between the "real world" and the "fantasy world". Years of exploration and accumulation have given Moffat a deeper understanding of the possibilities of painting, and firmly believe that his paintings have always been in an unfinished state, they record the evolution of life, until the moment of life withering away, all his works are truly finished.

Tropical Rafting 2020-1, oil on canvas

Muzi's works are rich in color and strong in emotion, and their unique composition methods contain more magical styles than traditional oil paintings. He gives abundant emotions to the paintings, outlining the life and world he feels with shocking colors. In this way, the colors that are retracted freely in the smooth emotional collision vaguely breed a sense of quiet atmosphere. Reading Muzi's works, you can truly feel a kind of spiritual power that makes people tremble. He is both a poet and a painter, and his oil paintings are an expression of his love for life and art.

I focus on the people or things around me, and the reality of art is not the reproduction of real scenes, but the reflection of the self, and the expression of the problem of this reflection. ——Bi Xiaohui

Bi Xiaohui, graduated from Shandong Academy of Arts with a bachelor's degree, and then studied for a doctorate at the China Academy of Art in 2020, and is now a member of the China Gongbi Painting Society, a member of the Chinese Painting Art Committee of the Shandong Artists Association, and a painter of the Li Keyan Painting Academy Youth Painting Academy.

Empty Objects, Color on Silk, 2020

With the memories of the past, experiencing the joys, pains and fears of the present, and trying to accept the inescapable demise, as an artist, Bi Xiaohui perceives the world around her and her own soul in a way that is difficult for others to detect, and finds the most appropriate expression for the results of her observations.

In the inheritance, Bi Xiaohui strives to express his overall thinking and judgment on the development of gongbi art, and often establishes a certain relationship between the objects depicted, such as the relationship between man and space, the relationship between man and society, the relationship between people and people, etc. These imperceptible but real connections are the main problems that the painter explores in his creation.

Tilter, Silk Coloring, 2019

Transforming emotion and consciousness into lines and colors, painting responds to a special and inexplicable need of the human spirit. Fantasies and dreams, which may not be a person's memory based on the past, may be a collective memory of nature and life. They can be untethered by time and space, without the logic of cause and effect, and float in at a moment when you want to pick up the paintbrush.

We'll see you next time.
