I love you as much as I love the sky of the night,
Oh, the vessel of sorrow, the tall silent girl,
O beauty, you, the decoration of my night,

I rushed forward to attack, I climbed up to attack,

Note: This poem was composed around 1843 and was first published in the first edition of The Flower of Evil, with the woman being Jeanne Dival. Some commentators believe that the meaning of this poem is unclear, and it is not clear whether the poet is talking to a woman or to the moon. Some people think that it is the double sex between the moon and the woman.
