Stills from Kandahar
Directed by Rick Roman Wolf and starring Gerald Butler, Kandahar was recently filmed in Saudi Arabia. In addition to Gerald Butler, Indian actor Ali Fazar and Iranian actor Navid Negaban will both join the cast.
The film is based on true events, written by former U.S. military intelligence officer Michelle La Fortina. The film takes place in the Middle East, where Butler's character Tom Harris works, a secret agent of the CIA. The leak of an intelligence exposed his secret mission and identity. Trapped in the heart of the enemy, Harris and his interpreter must flee the desert to an evacuation point in Kandahar while also escaping elite special forces. This is Butler's third collaboration with Rick Roman Wolf, the first two being Doomsday Escape and Angel Fall. Judging from the film's story synopsis, "Kandahar" still can't escape the story setting of the lone hero, and Rick Roman Wolf is also very good at directing the film.
In the history of American cinema, Kandahar was the first film to be shot entirely in Saudi Arabia, and the film was set in the Saudi port of Jeddah. For Saudi Arabia, having a medium-production Hollywood blockbuster filmed here is of great benefit to the country's publicity. The head of local producer Film AlUla said: "It's exciting that 'Kandahar' can start filming. I believe that this film can not only show the scenery and customs here, but also show the world Saudi film talent and technical strength." At present, there is no specific release schedule for the film.
