Professor Li Zhiyu, a retired professor of the Acting Department of the Shanghai Theater Academy, died at the age of 85 at 7:18 a.m. in Shanghai Huadong Hospital at 7:18 a.m. due to ineffective medical treatment.
Li Zhiyu is a native of Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, born on December 4, 1936 in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province. Graduated from the Performance Department of Shanghai Theater Academy in 1962, he is the first generation of theater performance graduate students trained in China, and then stayed on to teach at the school, successively serving as assistant teacher, lecturer, associate professor and professor of the Department of Acting, and trained many well-known actors such as Pan Hong, You Yong, Ma Shaohua, Ren Quan, Li Bingbing, Liao Fan, and Song Jia.

In addition to teaching, Li Zhiyu did not forget to combine with practice, and in 1979 he came to prominence in the film "Distressed Laughter" co-directed by Yang Yanjin and Deng Yimin. Later, he played a leading role or important role in films such as "Bashan Night Rain", "July Flowing Fire", "Don't Forget Me", "After the Rain", "Qiu Jin", "Well", "Fox Mystery Case", "Purple Trace", "Gao Peng Full Seat", "Superconductor" and other films filmed by Shangying, Changying, Emei and Guangxi. In 1985, Li Zhiyu also won the Best Actor Award at the 3rd TV Golden Eagle Awards for starring in the TV series "Xu Beihong".
