Historical background: Zhang Zuolin, ziyuting, Han nationality, the father of the famous patriotic general Zhang Xueliang, the milk name of the old knot, he likes to be called "Zhang Dashuai". Zhang Zuolin was born into a poor peasant family since childhood, participated in the Sino-Japanese Sino-Japanese War, and later threw himself into the green forest, and his power grew. Born in the first year of Guangxu (1875), the Zhang Shuai Mansion was both the official residence of Zhang Zuolin and the private residence of the Zhang family. The architectural function of "former politics and backward sleeping" is very clear. This kind of architectural process and layout is also a materialized presentation of the idea of the magnate in Zhang Zuolin's mind, comparing his home to the imperial palace treasure hall, and achieving the supremacy of the Zhang regime through the expression of architecture. In 1988, under the care of governments at all levels, Zhang Shuai Mansion was named Zhang Xueliang's former residence. In 2002, Zhang Shuai Mansion was officially renamed Zhang Shuai Mansion Museum and Liaoning Museum of Modern and Contemporary History.

Opened to the public in December 1988, the museum covers an area of 36,000 square meters, with a construction area of 27,600 square meters and an exhibition area of 1,600 square meters. Since Zhang Zuolin officially moved in in the fifth year of the Republic of China, it has been continuously expanded, and gradually formed an architectural system composed of four parts: the east courtyard, the middle courtyard, the west courtyard and the building outside the courtyard. Each building has a different style, and different styles are integrated. There are Traditional Chinese, Chinese and Western Styles, RomanEsque, Nordic styles, and Japanese styles. The main buildings are the Big Qing Lou, the Little Qing Lou, the West Courtyard Red House Group and the Miss Zhao Si Lou and other well-known buildings, and the "Zhang Shuai Mansion" is a provincial cultural relics protection unit.

Architectural layout: Zhang Shuai Mansion is an imitation of the royal palace style of architecture, first from the building within the wall to look at, the entire Shuai Mansion is in the east, middle and west three roads north and south vertical arrangement layout, to create a "fu" atmosphere. In order to build the mansion with the same grandeur as the Imperial Palace in Shenyang, Zhang Zuolin created the front of the Mansion into a transitional space - the front courtyard (that is, the prologue hall). The 1,500-square-meter front courtyard consisting of three east-west, middle and west gates and a large shadow wall is the entrance area to the Shuai Mansion.

The courtyard of the Zhang Shuai Mansion sits in a north-facing south orientation, in the shape of an "eye". There are a total of 11 buildings with 57 rooms, with a construction area of 1768 square meters. During the Republic of China period, the vermilion gate of the courtyard was painted with portraits of Qin Qiong and Jingde, and a large plaque with the words "Protecting the Country and Governing the Family" hung above the lintel on the inner lintel. The east wing of the courtyard is the inner account room, the west wing room is the initiation place; the east ear room is the kitchen, the west ear room is the warehouse; the east and west gate rooms are the telephone room, the communication room and the guard room. The gate leading to the second courtyard is a gatehouse carved with openwork flowers, called the Weeping Flower Instrument Gate.

From the architectural point of view, Zhang Shuai Mansion is a collection of near-point architecture, which not only retains the northeast style courtyard, but also combines the style of the official family's east and west side by side, the style of the north and south front halls and back houses, and at the same time, the European-style Japanese style is integrated into it, which complements each other in the living environment and functional distribution.

In the middle of the main room of the first entrance is the hall house, and the third entrance courtyard is the inner house. There are side doors and cloisters connecting the second and third courtyards, and there are corner doors leading to the Shuai Mansion Garden and the Small Green Building of the Great Green Building to the East Courtyard. The courtyard is a typical traditional Chinese classical building, the oil painting of the porch columns is unique, and the stone relief craftsmanship of the wall under the window is also a must. The East Courtyard is composed of large and small green houses and Shuaifu Gardens. The Gardens of Zhang Shuai Mansion are built with rockeries, flower beds, rain roads, pavilions and waters, lotus ponds and tunnels. The northeast corner of the Zhang Shuai Mansion was built with the relevant imperial temple.
