First, over the years for "Liaozhai Zhiyi" excessive publicity, excessive praise, in fact, in the original work, many stories as a whole are relatively superficial!
Second, many stories Pu Songling has heard passers-by tell, and there will be omissions between the narration and the record, and the storyline is not comprehensible!
Third, the era in which Pu Songling lived was the year of the Manchu Qing Daxing Text Prison, so many stories were written very cryptically and difficult to understand!
Fourth, some story times, places, and characters are different, but the storyline is similar to the story in the Ming Dynasty's "Three Words and Two Beats"! It should be that Pu Songling has not seen "Three Words and Two Beats", and only records it based on the story fragments told by pedestrians
In short, when Mr. Pu Songling edited "Liaozhai Zhiyi", he was subject to many restrictions such as era, region, and vision, and there were inevitably many flaws and dross in his works! But as far as the short story is concerned, it is nearly a hundred years earlier than the Western Maupassant short story collection!
