Remember Li Peng, a member of the Heilongjiang aircraft rain increase team

author:China Meteorological Administration

"How do we compare the two probes?" How is the time to enter the cloud calculated? Whichever prevails? Think about it. ”

"Analyze first, come later."

"Okay, tonight, I'll fly this afternoon."

This is a discussion with colleagues on WeChat before Li Peng carried out the rain increase operation on the morning of March 1, 2021, on the issue of data analysis of airborne equipment. After their original mission, they continued to discuss in the evening. Similar discussions are the daily routine of Li Peng's work, but this agreement has become a regret that can never be fulfilled...

Li Peng was born in Huma County, a remote town in Daxinganling, Heilongjiang Province, in September 1983, and was admitted to the Department of Atmospheric Science of Nanjing University in 2001 with the second place in the county's college entrance examination in science with a total score of 629 points. After graduation, he worked in the Business Research Section of the Heilongjiang Provincial Artificial Weather Modification Office for 14 years, engaged in the operation command of the artificial weather-influencing aircraft (Yun-12). From an apprentice to a senior engineer, from choosing an atmospheric science major to participating in a business research department, he knows the importance of operation command work to choose the timing of rainy weather. Through continuous learning from books, from practice, and from old experts, This has enabled Li Peng, who has a solid foundation in basic skills, to rapidly improve his practical application.

With good professional reserves, skilled practice and professionalism, Li Peng quickly stood out. In the past 14 years, Li Peng has issued about 270 issues of the "Ground Operation Guidance and Forecast," commanded nearly 30 aircraft to carry out artificial rain-increasing operations, and successively participated in more than ten national key research and development projects, such as the "Sudden Heavy Precipitation Process under the Background of the Cold Vortex in Northeast China", the "Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Cloud-Precipitation Aircraft Observation and the Construction of the Northwest Artificial Weather Influence Weather Engineering Project", and won the second prize of the Transformation of Scientific and Technological Achievements of the Heilongjiang Meteorological Bureau twice, and has been trained and taught as an expert for many times.

In 2018, after the national high-performance rain-increasing aircraft B-10GD entered Heilongjiang Province, it was urgently needed to join. Li Peng, who has 14 years of experience in commanding field operations, knows very well that this is a leap forward and a leap from the ground to the air, and he is willing to accept the challenge of being closer to the conditions of clouds and rain this time, and he also secretly promised to use practice to shorten the distance difference between the open space and the ground. Therefore, he did not hesitate to shoulder the task of aircraft field operations. New equipment, sophisticated instruments, huge and complex data, he analyzed, studied and interpreted one by one.

Every time the plane started, Li Peng sat in front of the monitor, skillfully and orderly opened the buttons, stared intently at the monitor, and the macro cloud outside the porthole and the "microscopic cloud" displayed on the instrument screen seemed to have been intertwined with the catalytic design scheme and the precipitation landing area in his mind. Li Peng and his colleagues fought side by side, trying to find the conditions for sowing catalysis. Chubby, he sat in the narrow cabin and endured physical discomfort caused by harsh conditions such as aircraft turbulence, negative pressure, and lack of oxygen. He skillfully slid the small mouse, flipped through the particle concentrations of different scales, and sometimes looked out the window, observed the cloud conditions of the operation, quickly judged the working area, and scientifically and efficiently completed the catalytic dispersion work. Behind every tense and orderly homework is supported by scientific rigor, and practice has become an important classroom for Li Peng's scientific research and exploration.

There is usually no fixed time for aircraft outfield operations, and when performing disaster prevention and mitigation tasks and major event support, it is necessary to enter the field in advance and wait, while the situation in airspace is often uncertain, sometimes waiting for several hours. When it rains, the cool breeze is sandwiched with rain, and the cold is cold to the bone; when it is hot on a sunny day, the heat wave is turbulent, and it is already sweaty before waiting for the plane; the lack of a meal and a meal is a common thing. Li Peng has worked in the field operation department for more than two years, stationed in the field for about 269 days, accumulating 96 sorties, 259 hours and 47 minutes, and he laughed and said that "the field is my second home." Studying and exploring day after day, Li Peng focused on the inspection of the effect of artificially influencing weather operations, participated in meetings and exchanges inside and outside the province for many times, and combined with the equipment operation of the national rain-increasing aircraft, wrote relevant materials and pondered the future development direction.

In the past two years of field operations, Li Peng has participated in major activities to artificially affect weather support on many occasions, and has carried out the task of artificially increasing rain and fighting drought in winter aircraft in the three provinces of Gansu, Guangdong, and Fujian for two consecutive years. Especially since the winter of 2020, Jiangxi and other places have obviously less precipitation, drought has developed rapidly, Li Peng has traveled to and from Jiangxi 4 times in 120 days, accumulating 86 days of tasks outside, the longest time to perform tasks of 41 days, the last time is also just before the Spring Festival just returned home to spend a reunion year with the elderly and children, the first day of work in the seventh grade he said: "If needed, I have no problem with my family!" And just after the end of the year, there is no need to let more colleagues go, and Shan Liang and I will definitely be able to do a good job in finishing work. In this way, Li Peng set foot on the hot land of Jiangxi for the fourth time on February 20.

Li Peng, who has experienced many thrilling moments, is well aware of the dangers lurking behind thunderstorms, cold water layers, and atmospheric turbulence, but as long as it is beneficial to the people and the people, he will disregard his personal safety and take the initiative to take the risk. Board the operating plane, ride through the wind and clouds, thunder and lightning, fight frost, rain and snow, every boarding and sailing must face the god of death, and every safe landing is a new life after the war. In the face of the scorching sun in the dry fields, the sea of fire, the pressure of hail, and the sudden rain destroying the city, Li Peng made one brave choice after another, "Someone must go up!" Don't be afraid, there is no danger of fighting! ”

Li Peng always kept the difficulties to himself and the convenience to everyone. Both his colleagues, family and classmates miss the humble, smiling, smart, hard-working, lively, and professionally proficient young man.

Gannan grass seedlings harvested the grain, thinking of tears sprinkled on the heart field. Li Peng used practical actions to interpret the excellent character of being willing to dedicate himself and not to be afraid of hardships and dangers, practiced the spiritual realm of integrating the original heart into the soul and carrying the mission on his shoulders, and wrote a touching chapter worthy of the times with his precious life.
