Wu Changshuo is 20 years older than Qi Baishi. When he was young, his family was poor, and his father Wu Xinjia was a reader who liked to rule seals and taught him to read and engrave seals from an early age. Legend has it that he began to learn to paint at the age of 50.

When Wu Changshuo visited Ren Bonian, he wrote several stone drum texts on the paper, and after Ren Bonian read them, he said: "In the future, your achievements will definitely surpass mine."

Calligraphy has always been the inner cultivation of literati painting, just like painting oil painting must first learn to draw, so Wu Changshuo's golden stone into the painting road is natural.

But according to Qi Baishi's good friend Hu Peiheng, Qi Baishi never met with Wu Changshuo in his lifetime. Qi Baishi only repeatedly wrote and speculated about Wu Changshuo's paintings, and did not get Wu Changshuo's personal guidance, it can be said that Qi Baishi "remote master" Wu Changshuo.
