At about 15:00 on November 15, after receiving the alarm at the Chengguan Police Station of the Wushan County Public Security Bureau, the police on duty learned in detail about Xiao Dong's physical appearance and clothing characteristics when he left, and while quickly dispatching the police to carry out a visit and investigation, they released an emergency search notice through the media in order to obtain useful clues.

After retrieving nearby surveillance video, it was found that Xiaodong had appeared near the local village committee, and the police immediately led his parents and neighbors to expand the scope of search, but until dark, no trace of him was found. While appeasing the families of the anxious children, the police mobilized the villagers and the enthusiastic masses to act separately to search for hillsides, cave dwellings, abandoned courtyards, firewood houses, river canals and vegetable greenhouses around the village.
