In 1959, after years of struggle, Castro led the partisans to overthrow the Batista regime and won the victory of the Cuban Revolution. Castro became Cuba's first supreme leader and was known as the "Father of the Nation of Cuba".

On 16 February 1959, Castro became Prime Minister of the Government (later Chairman of the Council of Ministers) and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. In 1962, Castro became first secretary of the Socialist Revolutionary Unity Party of Cuba. Castro in 1963 was in full swing.
