indesign add footnote tutorial:
1. Open InDesign.
2. Open the InDesign document you will be using. To do this, select File > Open from the Control panel of InDesign located at the top of the workspace. If you do not have an existing InDesign document, create a new document by selecting File > New > Document and specifying settings for the new document.
3. If you need to import text, you can select "File" > "Place" from the "Control" panel. Navigate to the file you want to place and double-click the file name. If you import a large amount of text, you may need to add additional text frames on other pages.
4. Find the part of your text that requires a footnote. Select the Type tool from the Tools panel and click the location where you want to insert the text reference in which you want to insert the footnote.
5. Select type from the control panel > insert footnote. Enter the text of the footnote. The area where your footnote appears on the page will automatically expand up to fit your footnote until you reach the InDesign position to split the text from the footnote. If the footnote is outside this range, it flows to the following text boxes or columns.
Select Type > Document Footer Options from the Control panel. In the box that appears, click the Numbering and Formatting tab to modify the text reference and the numbering and formatting of the footnote.
Select a numbering style for the footnote's text reference, the starting number of the footnote, and whether the footnote numbering is to start over.
If you want to use something other than superscripted numbers, and specify paragraph and character styles as text references to footnotes, specify where the text references for the footnotes.
Specifies the amount of white space that appears between the footnote's reference number and the footnote text. Click the Layout tab in the Footnote Options box to modify the appearance of the footnote.
6. Set the minimum space to display between the bottom of the text box and the footnote.
7. Set the amount of space to display between each footnote.
8. Set the amount of space to display between the lines and footnotes that separate the footnotes from the text frame.
9. Select this option if you want to allow the footnote to be split into multiple pages.
10. After making the desired changes, click OK.
