The Palace Museum's special exhibition of historical figure paintings was originally the main "Han Xizai Night Feast", but I did not expect to be demolished into 4 exhibitions after the postponement, Han Xizai also did not have it, the first issue of the first half of the year "Temple Ceremony Fan" I missed, the second period of "Lin Xia Fengya" is my favorite collection of literati, of course, can not be missed.
This time into the palace is very good, because even the special exhibition also needs to be reserved, "forbidden city run" is no longer, and do not feel that there are many people, and the forbidden city continues the convention of opening the door early during the holiday, I can start quietly watching paintings at less than 8 o'clock, basically after shooting a round of other tourists to come in one after another, it feels very cool. Let's start with a few things that I think are particularly good.
Northern Song Dynasty, Zhao Tuo (biography) "Listening to the Qintu"
I bought a replica at home hanging on the opposite side of the day, see the original to know that my replica is a little shrunken, the original is still relatively large, and the silk surface is smooth, it is difficult to imagine that it is thousands of years of silk, really worthy of tribute. As far as the technique of painting is concerned, it is indeed a first-class craftsmanship masterpiece, not only the characters, but also the depiction of the background shochiku and Ling Xiao is also meticulous, and the sketching ability is amazing. However, in the whole exhibition, I think it is not the most powerful painter, the most powerful are Zhou Wenjue and Wang Zhenpeng, and I will talk about it later. Of course, looking at this work can also be regarded as achieving the wish of "seeing a song huizong a year" (the "Qingzhu Tu" that I saw last time in Poly cannot be counted).
Five Generations, Zhou Wenji, "Liulitang Character Picture Scroll"
The complete facsimile of "Liulitang Character Diagram" in the American metropolis, a total of 11 people, this or Zhou Wenju's original fragments, only 4 people remain, pen and ink is much better than the "Heavy Screen Chess Diagram" that was also transmitted to Zhou Wenji. This piece was seen in the 2015 Shiqu Baodi Exhibition, but at that time there were too many famous relics to give too much time to appreciate, this re-appearance, you can confirm that it is the highest level of Chinese paintings, Li Gonglin may be juxtaposed with it, better than the previous "Listening to the Qintu". The two paintings can actually be admired side by side, both have Song Huizong inscriptions, both are close to blank backgrounds, both have pines, and both are stacked stones for stools... The Northern Song Dynasty is still close to five generations, and many similarities are reasonable. I thought that Qiu Ying's paintings of characters were already very powerful, but in the same contrast, I was able to see from above and below, especially the details such as the hair of the characters.
Yuan, Wang Zhenpeng,"Boya Drum and Piano Picture Scroll"
This piece was seen in the penultimate phase of the Forbidden City Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition in 2015, in fact, most of these famous relics in the special exhibition were exhibited in the Wuying Hall of that year, and I only caught up with a tail, only to see the last two issues, which can not but be said to be regrets. I think it can be seen from this work that Wang Zhenpeng has almost reached the level of Zhou Wenjue, especially the white painting, which should be very close to Li Gonglin. After the volume, there are Feng Zizhen and other multi-treks, but unfortunately they are not unfolded.
Tang, Lu Yao (biography) "Six Yi Picture Scrolls"
The paintings are Ma Rongtan Lying Blowing Pipe, Ruan Fu Wax Sands Golden Marten For Wine, Bian Shao Belly Five Classics, Tao Qian Ge Towel Filter Wine, Han Kang Buyi Pharmaceutical, and Bi Zhuo's DrunkenNess, which can very well reflect the debauchery of the literati during the Han and Wei Dynasties. Although this is a Facsimile of the Song Dynasty, the character shape is high and ancient, the color is elegant, the master is big and the servant is small, and only after reading it can I know where the origin of Qian Xuan's character painting is. In front of the painting, there is the inscription "Lu Yao Paints Yiren Figure, Li Taiwei's Old Objects", and at the end of the painting there is a line book "Three days after the winter solstice in November of the fourth year of Huichang, and Jing Yanwen read it in the high pavilion of the back garden, Taiwei Pingzhangshi", Li Taiwei is Li Deyu of the Tang Dynasty, but both titles should be copied together with the painting. There are many inscriptions at the end of the volume, the earliest two are the Northern Song Dynasty Lü Da Lin and Wang Yu, and then there is the Southern Song Dynasty dragon painter Chen Rong Changba, which can be used as a standard piece of his handwriting.
Northern Song Dynasty, Li Gonglin (biography) "Seven Sages of the Bamboo Forest"
The official introduction is that this is the work of Li Gonglin, who is entrusted by the Ming Dynasty, and should have its roots. I like the design of this painting, the figures and the sitting carpet form a whole, and the blankets and other objects tirelessly depict the ornamentation, which is very decorative. There are two "Li Gonglin" in the exhibition, but the real dragon sleep of the Forbidden City is not seen, it is said that the Forbidden City once wanted to hold an exhibition with Li Gonglin as the protagonist, but also borrowed the Japanese "Five Horse Diagram", I don't know why there is no trace so far.
Northern Song Dynasty, Li Gonglin (biography) "Picture Scroll of Longmian Mountain Villa"
Mingren painted according to the poems of Su Shi and Su Rui, the composition is very good, and the pen strength is weak. There are many bold aspects of the composition, such as waterfalls falling in a straight line, overriding rocks, etc., and many characteristics of the late Ming Dynasty deformed landscapes.
Southern Song Dynasty, anon. "Huichang Jiulao Picture Scroll"
The same composition of the "Nine Old Figures" has seen many pieces, the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, may all come from the same mother book as this one, this piece has a clear Song Dynasty style, the building depiction is meticulous, and the pine stone method is influenced by Li Tang and Liu Songnian. At the end of the volume, there is an inscription by Emperor Gaozong of Song with the two bodies of xingcao, the signature "Give Congqiao", the seal of "treasure of the imperial book" Zhu Wenfangyin, and the book of Xingshu from the Second King, which also shows the shadow of Zhao Mengfu's early study of his calligraphy style.
Southern Song Dynasty, anon. "Lu Tong Cooking Tea Picture Scroll"
The old legend is Liu Songnian's work, but the silk surface is damaged and worn, and it is more difficult to see the original appearance.
Southern Song Dynasty, Li Tang "Tsai Wei Tu Scroll"
This piece was also seen in the 2015 Exhibition of Calligraphy and Paintings of past dynasties, and the composition has similarities with the "Haopu Picture Scroll" of the Tianjin Museum, which feels like a partial close-up, and the "Cevi Picture Scroll" is better in terms of characters. Speaking of Li Tang, the National Palace Museum in Taipei is exhibiting "Three Mountains", including Li Tang's "Ten Thousand Pine Winds", which is a pity that it has not been able to meet the grand event.

Selected from the Qing Palace's old collection of "Four Dynasties Selected Algae" volume, the old title is Li Tang, and the actual style is closer to Liu Songnian.
Northern Song Dynasty, Zhao Chang (biography) "Southern Tang Dynasty Wenhui Map Page"
It is also selected from the Qing Palace's old collection of "Four Dynasties Selected Algae" album, which is now considered to be the work of the Ming Dynasty, but in fact it depicts the scene of Su Shi's inscription poem in the Xiyuan Ya collection.

This is a Ming people forged Zhao Mengfu, the volume is too long to look at only part of it. The word is still a bit zhao meaning, but the painting is relatively poor. I really don't know how many pseudo-Zhao Mengfu there are in the Forbidden City.
Ming, Du Yan, Jin Chun," "Ancient Sage Poetic Intention Volume"
Does this word also resemble Zhao Mengfu? Because Jin Chun is a master of forging Zhao characters, many so-called Zhao Mengfu may now be Jin Chun. Du Yan is also a leader in Ming Dynasty figure painting, and there are many of his works in the exhibition, which is probably the highest appearance rate.
Ming, Wen Zhengming, "Lanting Xiu Zen Picture Scroll"
This piece has also been exhibited in the special exhibition of green landscapes in the thousands of miles, because it is not easy to take pictures because it is a golden note. Wen Zhengming's Lanting picture scroll has seen many pieces, such as Liaobo, Long Art Museum, Guangzhou Art Museum, etc., and feels that the Dragon Art Museum is the best.

Belonging to the "Character Story Album", it depicts the story of Li Bai and five celebrities living in seclusion on the banks of the White Crane Bay in The Wandering Mountains, integrating the characters and the landscape.

Cui Zizhong's paintings are very few, and the paintings seen in the Shandong Museum before are also the stories of Li Bai's "Spring Night Feast Peach and Plum Garden".

At the same time, the Tsinghua University Art Museum "Mizuki Zhan qinghua" also has Huang Chen's "Lanting Xiuyu Picture Scroll" in the exhibition, which is the same as paper ink and pencil, and the composition is similar, but in contrast, the Forbidden City version is better, the Tsinghua version of the character face is similar, the lines are messy and delicate, or imitations.
