British real estate developer fined 610,000 yuan for renovating the old building, which was included in the "Doomsday Judgment Book"

Laurence Daw, a 32-year-old British property developer, was sanctioned by cheshire Eastern Council officials for renovating his home in Aston Park in Cheshire, fined £70,000 (about 610,000 yuan) and 250 hours of community service.

Daw spent £320,000 on the house in 2016 and £480,000 on its renovations.

The property, which was recorded as Queen Anne's country house, was included in the Doomsday Book because it was so old.

Cheshire East Council listed Laurence Daw's crimes as demolishing a historic two-storey house without permission, removing part of the staircase, floor tiles, door frames, window frames, ceilings, cushions and facades, while using insulating foam spray on the fabric of the building.

The allegations, Daw said they were unacceptable, slamming the City Council's "coercive tactics" in the case and claiming that Aston Park House was abandoned and in "dangerous disrepair" when he bought it. He moved his family from London for a better life, and he only wanted the best for his family.

He added: "My purpose was never anything else, just to build a safe and secure family while rebuilding an abandoned and crumbling property. While I fully respect the role of the URA planners, what I had to endure was a very unpleasant thing, a waste of taxpayer resources, completely unnecessary. ”

Charles Smith, chief adviser on the crisis of historic building heritage in north-west England, said: "We will continue to work closely with cheshire's Eastern Council to repair as many damaged sites as possible. We hope this tragic episode will remind other owners of the need to respect and care for buildings that have been listed for sale. (Compiler: Shirley)
