In the second year of Jianyuan, that is, on the day of the ambush in 139 BC, Emperor Wu issued an edict to give the ministers of culture and military affairs a reward of meat, and everyone arrived, but the high officials in charge of the imperial court's diet were delayed, and the ministers of culture and military affairs waited patiently, and no one dared to leave. However, Dongfang Shuo, the boy, waited impatiently, and the individual went forward to draw his sword and cut a piece of meat to go home, and he said as he walked: "On such a hot day, don't wait, cut some meat and go home early." The high official Cheng, who was the chief secretary of the court, knew that he was very reluctant and made a small report to Emperor Wu, who ordered Dongfang Shuo to make a review at the imperial court.
Dongfang Shuo really made a review at the imperial court: "The emperor has ordered to reward our meat, we take the meat and then wait for the emperor's order, it is our unreasonableness, I myself drew my sword to cut the meat, but cut a small piece much less than the average weight, I am not very clean, I took the meat home, let the whole family immediately share the meat given by the emperor, everyone felt the emperor's benevolence!" Emperor Wu was amused to laugh, and more importantly, he heard the sound of "let the whole family be grateful to Dade", and was very happy, and rewarded him with a barrel of wine and a hundred pounds of meat, so that he could take it home to let the whole family share the emperor's reward. This year, Dongfang Shuo was only twenty-three years old.
Emperor Wudi of Han had a hobby of hunting, and in the third year of Jian'an, that is, in 138 BC, Emperor Wudi of Han prepared to plan an area of 100 miles to build a special hunting ground. The flattering ministers of the Imperial Chinese agreed, but Dongfang Shuo wrote to stop them. Dongfang Shuo's general meaning is: "When His Majesty built a hunting ground, he not only encroached on the land of the people, but also destroyed the graves and houses of the people, so that the people died without burial and had no place to live." Labor hurting the people and money, not to mention, but also damaged the emperor's supreme holy name! Although Emperor Wu of Han was reluctant, he still accepted the suggestion not to build a hunting ground, and appreciated Dongfang Shuo's courage and advice from the heart, so he issued an edict to Give Dongfang Shuo a Golden Wanliang and grant it to the official of Taizhong Dafu.
