As a representative species of the fifth wave of marine aquaculture in China, sea cucumber has formed a breeding industrial group with Shandong, Liaoning and Hebei coastal areas as the main production areas, and extended to the coastal areas of Fujian and Zhejiang in the form of north-south relay. As the cornerstone of the benign development of the sea cucumber industry, since the breakthrough in the 1980s, the seed industry has formed a seedling production pattern based on factory seedlings, supplemented by pond ecological seedling preservation and shallow sea cage seedling preservation emerging mode, and the current annual production of sea cucumber seedlings has reached 65 billion heads, of which Shandong Province is the core area of national seed supply. However, compared with the scale of cultivation of thorn ginseng seedlings, the proportion of good seed seedlings is less than 20%. The reason is closely related to the imperfection of the breeding and breeding technology system. The industry is facing many problems such as the decline in breeding yields and the increase in breeding diseases caused by germplasm degradation, and the emergence of "Samyou No. 1" has reversed this decline.
Breeding platform for fine seeds
"Sanyou No. 1" is an excellent variety of sea cucumber with strong disease resistance, fast growth rate and high temperature resistance cultivated by Qingdao Ruizi Group Co., Ltd. and the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute, and is the first new variety of thorn ginseng with stress resistance traits in China. Fan Rui, general manager of Qingdao Ruizi Group Co., Ltd., said that the domestic demand for "Samyou No. 1" seedlings is strong, and the annual demand in Dalian alone reaches 20 million jin, while the annual production capacity of Qingdao is only 600,000 to 800,000 jin, which is far from meeting the market demand.

In view of this phenomenon, Qingdao West Coast New Area gave full play to the scientific and technological advantages of the aquatic seed industry, explored the ecological and healthy breeding and breeding model, actively fought for financial funds at both levels in the urban area, and organized and supported the "Thorn Ginseng 'Ginseng No. 1' Efficient Seed Production and Industrialization Promotion Project" in the new district's 2018 independent innovation major special project. In view of the insufficient large-scale seed production capacity of fine species of thorn ginseng, this project takes the new nationally examined aquatic products "Ginseng No. 1" cultivated by the project team as the germplasm basis, carries out research on the key technologies and models of efficient seed production and large-scale expansion of seedlings, analyzes the decline risk of excellent traits of new varieties of thorn ginseng, develops the parental ripening, efficient seed preparation and intermediate breeding technology of excellent varieties of sea cucumber, establishes the precise propagation regulation and efficient propagation technology of the parents of the good species of thorn ginseng, and strengthens the demonstration and promotion and technical personnel training. Realize the transformation and application of this achievement in the West Coast New Area, effectively improve the production capacity and coverage rate of sea cucumber seeds in the new area, and promote the healthy development of the sea cucumber industry.
