On 14 December 1986 Dennis made his league debut for Ajax against Roda JC. The following year, he made another Appearance in the Champions League against Sweden's Malmö. At Ajax, he helped win the 1987 Cup Winners' Cup, the 1990 League, the 1992 Confederations Cup and the 1993 Dutch Cup. A former Dutch international, he is considered one of the best players in Dutch football in the 1990s, making 79 appearances for the Dutch national team and scoring 37 goals.
