In 1987, a feature film "Operation Lightning" was released in China, which caused a great response. The film depicts the thrilling story of the People's Liberation Army scouts who went deep behind the enemy's back, were born into death, fought with the Vietnamese army special forces, and finally discovered the enemy's hidden heavy artillery group and guided our army's artillery fire to annihilate it in one fell swoop.

"Lightning Action" is very good-looking, adding a lot of thrilling elements popular overseas, and it was a rare commercial film in the mainland at that time. It is worth noting that this story is legendary, but it is not a cave wind. In fact, in the real self-defense counterattack against Vietnam, there are many wonderful examples of the creation of "Operation Lightning". The following is a model example of the Old Mountain Wheel War in the 1980s.

Operation Blitzkrieg of the People's Liberation Army Scouts: Directed artillery fire to eliminate an artillery company of the Vietnamese Army

In December 1984, the 1st Army of the Nanjing Military Region of the People's Liberation Army marched to the laoshan front line to take over the 11th Army of the Kunming Military Region in carrying out the task of defending the defense. At this time, the Vietnamese army had just completed the preparation for the offensive that lasted for nearly 5 months, and soon launched a fierce counterattack on the positions of the 1st Army, and the two sides launched a fierce tug-of-war for more than 3 months.

In light of the changes in the enemy's situation in front of them, the commanders of the Kunming Military Region and the 1st Army decided to adopt an active defensive policy, hold their positions, resist the enemy's counterattack, and lose no land. At the same time, seize the favorable fighters to attack, squeeze the Vietnamese positions, and improve our defensive posture. It is also necessary to give full play to the superiority of our army's artillery, adopt a variety of tactics to strike at the enemy, and deplete the viet congenial's living forces, so as to firmly grasp the initiative on the battlefield.

After receiving the order, the artillery units of our army carefully studied and carefully reconnoitred, meticulously formulated a firepower strike plan according to the terrain and enemy's situation, and decided to adopt various tactics to consume and contain the enemy and cooperate with the infantry in combat. For example, using large-caliber heavy artillery to suppress the Vietnamese army's medium-sized artillery, giving full play to the advantages of our artillery's artillery with enough ammunition to suppress the Vietnamese artillery on the whole; using small-caliber artillery to seek and annihilate the Vietnamese army's small-caliber artillery, dispersing and dispersing, swimming against swimming, so that the artillery guerrilla warfare that the Vietnamese army is good at cannot play a role; single and double artillery is used to lurk for a long time, suddenly shoot, and remove the hidden artillery positions in the front of the Vietnamese army; through the scouts to obtain intelligence, concentrate artillery fire to destroy important targets in the depth of the Vietnamese defense line, and so on.

In accordance with the above policy, our artillery units dispatched a large number of scouts to go deep into the front and behind the enemy lines, overcome the hardships and hardships caused by extreme environments such as danger, cold, hunger, and high temperatures, camouflage and lurk, and conceal and capture, so as to send back effective intelligence and guide our artillery to knock out the enemy's artillery positions, fire points, command posts, observation posts, shelters, ammunition depots, and other targets one by one, thus making important contributions to the victory of the war.

Operation Blitzkrieg of the People's Liberation Army Scouts: Directed artillery fire to eliminate an artillery company of the Vietnamese Army

A reconnaissance group of the 16th Regiment of the 9th Artillery Division, which was attached to the 1st Army, secretly inserted itself behind the enemy's lines to find important targets within the enemy's deep defense line. One night, they noticed a string of bright spots near the highway in the distance, which they judged to be car lights, so they tracked it down. These bright spots loomed until they disappeared under a large mountain. The reconnaissance team judged that there must be something wrong near the mountain, either there were infantry positions or warehouses of supplies and ammunition, and everyone was very excited.

After dawn, the Laoshan area was shrouded in fog. The reconnaissance group immediately set out to approach the mountain under the cover of dense forest and deep grass. In order not to scare the snakes, the reconnaissance team divided into three ways, climbed up the three surrounding highlands, and observed the mountain from different angles. Due to the large fog, it is not clear how to see. But the team members were calm and patient, taking turns to observe, waiting for the opportunity.

Around noon, the sun was out and the fog began to dissipate. A scout suddenly spotted a group of Vietnamese troops in a depression behind the mountain, camouflaging their positions. After careful observation, we found 4 artillery pieces arranged in the depression, all of which were howitzers, and there was a hidden artillery company of the Vietnamese army! The scouts were very excited, and immediately made calculations, and then transmitted the target coordinates back to the rear command post.

After only 3 minutes, a swarm of shells flew from the direction of our army, a salvo of fire from an artillery battalion, which accurately covered the depression. But I saw a smoke of gunfire, a raging fire, artillery racks, car wheels, broken limbs flying around... A Vietnamese artillery company was thus fully reimbursed.
