23.37 meters! The dusty 31-year world record was broken

On June 19, Beijing time, the U.S. Olympic Athletics Trials opened at the Eugene Hayward Athletics Field, and on the first day of the men's shot put competition, Kruser threw a score of 23.37 meters, breaking the original 23.12 meters world record of 31 years.

In the men's shot put qualifier, Kruser threw 22.92 meters on the first throw, surpassing the 22.91 meters of 2019 World Championships champion Kovac in Doha and breaking the Olympic record of 22 meters 52 meters held by Kruser himself.

In the final, Kruser was in even better shape, throwing 22.61 meters from the first throw to lock in the championship. By the fourth throw, Kruser threw 23.37 meters, setting a new world record.

The original world record for men's shot put was 23.12 meters set by American Barnes on May 20, 1990, and Kruser raised the original record by 0.25 meters.

Kruser said after the game: "It was a very special moment, I was in this track and field race for the first time, I really wanted to break the world record, today it felt like I had completed this task, I knew that my strength had already been able to break the record, today is to achieve it." Kruser mentioned that since starting practicing throwing, the goal is to break the world record, and now it is finally becoming a reality.
