Later, Zhao Tuo submitted to Emperor Wen of Han, canceled the imperial title, and submitted to the Han Dynasty, obeying the duties of Gongna, such as the courtesy of the princes. In the fourth year of Emperor Jianyuan of the Han Dynasty (137 BC), Zhao Tuo died of illness at the age of nearly 100, and then Zhao Tuo's grandson Zhao Hu took the throne as the King of Nanyue.
Zhao Tuo was really long-lived, not only living from the Qin Dynasty to the Han Dynasty, but also experiencing the five emperors of the Han Dynasty.
In 111 BC, the nanyue kings and their nanyue kingdoms were destroyed by Emperor Wu of Han. For more than 1,000 years, north-central Vietnam was China's territory, which was directly ruled by the Han Dynasty, Eastern Wu, Jin Dynasty, Southern Dynasty, Sui Dynasty, Tang Dynasty, and Southern Han Dynasty. The Vietnamese refer to this time as the "Northern Period".
