Once upon a time, if a prince died, his son who wanted to succeed to the throne had to accept the canonization. However, after Duke Huan killed his brother Duke Yin, he proclaimed himself the Son of Heaven and did not request the canonization of King Huan of Zhou. Since then, the system that princes must be canonized by the Son of Heaven has been undermined. After Ji Lin succeeded to the throne, he was no longer willing to be under the exclusive control of Zheng Zhuanggong, so he drove him away. It was only after Zheng Zhuang returned to China that he began to constantly disturb the tranquility of the Border of the Zhou Dynasty, and did not pay attention to the Son of Heaven at all, and did not visit the Prince for five years. Ji Lin couldn't bear it anymore and personally led an army to fight against Zheng Zhuanggong. During the battle, Ji Lin was shot in the shoulder, but Zheng Zhuanggong pretended to send his subordinates down to apologize, and the matter was not resolved. This war was later known as the Battle of Changge. Since then, Zhou Tianzi's dominance has become weaker and weaker.
It has to be said that if the superior does not have a certain degree of courage, he is very agreeable to be oppressed by his courtiers, so since ancient times, the emperor has been particularly jealous of the courtiers of the lord of high merit.
In about March 697 BC, Ji Lin was very ill, and when he was dying, he summoned the Duke of Zhou to entrust his will, and made his eldest son Ji Tuo the crown prince because of the ancestral system. His favorite was his second son, Jik, and entrusted him to Black Shoulder. Not long after, Ji Lin fell ill and died in Luoyang, and Huan Wang was the temple name he was posthumously awarded.

In the early Spring and Autumn Period, there was a ZhengZhuang Duke who first assisted King Ping of Zhou and later assisted King Huan of Zhou, the son of King Ping of Zhou, so he felt that he was very remarkable. King Huan of Zhou did not want him to continue to monopolize power, so he made a proposal that he wanted him to return to his fiefdom.
Duke Zhuang said that he was very angry and very dissatisfied with the suggestion made by King Huan of Zhou, but he had to return to his fief first. In the five years after that, he never went to worship King Huan of Zhou again, which made King Huan very angry, and he also fought against the Song Kingdom in the name of King Huan of Zhou, and King Huan of Zhou could not bear it and ordered his position to be abolished. He declared that he would never pay tribute again.
King Huan personally commanded the armies of the Three Kingdoms to attack Zheng Guo, and prepared to rebuke him for this. In this famous Battle of Changge, King Huan of Zhou was shot in the left shoulder by a general of the State of Zheng, zhu Tan, who was a great general of the State of Zheng during the Spring and Autumn Period. In the evening, Zheng Zhuang sent his ministers to the barracks of King Huan of Zhou with courtesy, saying that it was a misunderstanding, and King Huan felt that since Duke Zhuang had come to ask for his guilt, he had saved face. The result, of course, was that they would not fight each other.
In fact, the war that Huan Wang originally launched was wrong, he sent troops without the certainty of victory, and wanted to use the dignity of the Son of Heaven to threaten others, and the result was naturally a complete defeat. The Zhou royal family was not only discredited, but also could no longer command the princes of other countries, and the prestige of Zhou Tianzi was gone. This can be said to be the saddest self-inflicted war in Chinese history, in fact, King Huan of Zhou could have achieved this effect of surrendering without fighting through diplomatic means, but he was useless.
