Ji Zheng, the king of Zhou Xiang, was the son of King Hui of Zhou and the sixth monarch of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. He reigned from 651 to 619 BC. During the reign of King Xiang of Zhou, the princes competed for hegemony increasingly fiercely, and in order to compete for hegemony, each vassal state showed its ability and used various means to seize all opportunities that could expand its strength.
During the reign of King Xiang of Zhou, his half-brother Shu Dai had joined forces with Rong Zhai to plot rebellion, and was discovered by King Xiang of Zhou and fled to Qi with his uncle. Guan Zhong of Qi led his troops to attack Shudai and successfully suppressed the rebellion. In order to thank Duke Huan of Qi for his help, King Xiang of Zhou specially sent Duke Zai Kong of Zhou to participate in the alliance of princes in Kwai Qiu.
However, the reign of King Xiang of Zhou was not smooth, he was driven away by his younger brother Wang Zi with collusion with the Di people, and the Duke Wen of Jin sent troops to quell the rebellion and killed the prince belt, and finally ceded the royal territory north of the Yellow River to the Jin State.
In general, the period of King Xiang of Zhou was a fierce period of competition for hegemony among the princes in the Spring and Autumn Period, and his reign was full of challenges and difficulties, but he successfully maintained the dignity and status of the Zhou royal family, and also added some buffer time for the later decline of the Zhou royal family.
