The torches of the 14th Games and the Special Olympics were officially passed in Shaanxi
On August 16, the 14th Games of the People's Republic of China, the 11th Disabled Games of the People's Republic of China and the 8th Special Olympics Torch Relay Ignition Ceremony were held in Yongningmen Square, Xi'an City.
With the theme of "Prosperous National Transport, Chang'an in the World" and following the concept of "Communion of The Disabled and Healthy", the torch relay of the 14th Games and the Special Olympics adopted the "two fires in one" transmission method for the first time. From August 16 to September 12, the torch relay was carried out in Shaanxi Province for 28 days and 14 stations, covering a total distance of 72 kilometers.
The torch is named "Banner", the design is inspired by shandan danhua, which adopts the form of paper-cutting in northern Shaanxi and artistic treatment, which has the meaning of shandan dan flowering red and bright. The front of the torch is printed with two emblems at the same time, which means that "two all-round luck is equally wonderful".
Two-time Olympic champion Qin Kai, as the first torchbearer, raised the torch and began to run about 50 meters with his head held high.
"I am particularly proud to have completed the first torch relay in my hometown. Xi'an has changed rapidly in recent years, and every time I come back, I have a different feeling, and I hope that this year's Fourteenth Games will be held wonderfully and smoothly. Qin Kai, who is still studying in Beijing, said.
Yao Wei, a torchbearer for the disabled, said that the torch relay of "two fires in one" allows the disabled and able-bodied people to join hands to applaud the National Games and the Special Olympics, and believes that the holding of this sports event will encourage the majority of disabled people to go out of their homes and into the big family of society.
It is understood that the 100 torchbearers who participated in the first torch relay came from all walks of life in Xi'an, including police, firefighters, teachers, doctors, nurses, cleaners, taxi drivers, couriers, etc. The end point is located in Danfengmen Square, Daming Palace National Heritage Park, with a total distance of about 5.3 kilometers.
The next stop of the torch relay will be held in Weinan City, Shaanxi Province on the morning of the 18th, and the main torch tower will be lit at the opening ceremony of the 14th Games on September 15 and the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games on October 22.
