Zhang Zuyi (1911.12.04--- 1961.05.13), a native of Baitaji Village, Shangshiqiao Town, Shangcheng, Henan. In 1928 he joined the Farmers' Association. He joined the Communist Youth League of China in June 1931 and joined the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army in September of the same year. In 1932, he transferred to the Communist Party of China. During the agrarian revolutionary war, he successively served as the squad leader and platoon commander of the special service company of the 73rd Division of the 25th Army of the Red Fourth Front, the chief of the supply section of the 217th Regiment, the officer of the Political Department of the 93rd Division of the 31st Army, and the political instructor of the 279th Regiment Company. After arriving in northern Shaanxi, he served as a referee in the political department of the Red 31st Army and the chief of the security section. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he successively served as the chief of the Hoeing and Rape Section of the Political Department of the 386th Brigade of the 129th Division of the Eighth Route Army, and participated in the battles of Qiquan Village and ShentouLing. In 1940, he served as the political commissar of the 772nd Regiment, the director of the political department of the brigade, and the deputy political commissar of the Third Military Subdistrict of the Taiyue Military Region. During the Liberation War, he served as the political commissar of the 386th Brigade and led the troops to participate in the Shangdang Campaign. Later, he successively served as the commander of the second sub-district of the Taiyue Military Region, the chief of staff of the 8th Column of the Jinji-Hebei Luyu Military Region, the deputy commander and chief of staff of the 8th Column of the North China Military Region, and the deputy commander and chief of staff of the 60th Army of the People's Liberation Army, and participated in the battles of Yuncheng, Linfen, Jinzhong, and Taiyuan. In 1949, he was appointed commander of the 60th Army, and his unit was transferred to the First Field Army within the formation of the 18th Corps, marched into the Great Northwest, and participated in the battles of Fuyu, Lanzhou, and Qinling. Later, it was transferred to the Second Field Army, marched into Sichuan, and participated in chengdu and other battles. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as the deputy commander and commander of the West Sichuan Military Region, and participated in the command of the suppression of bandits. In 1952, he participated in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, served as the commander of the 60th Army of the Chinese Volunteer Army, and led his troops to participate in the 1953 Summer Counterattack Campaign and the Battle of Jincheng. He was awarded the Order of the National Flag of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, First Class, and the Order of Freedom, Second Class. After returning to China in 1955, he entered the Nanjing Military Academy to study. In September 1957, he became chief of staff of the Nanjing Military Region. In 1955, he was awarded the rank of lieutenant general and was awarded the Order of August 1, Second Class, the Order of Independence and Freedom, First Class, and the Liberation Medal, First Class.
