Beijing, October 10 (China News Network) -- Mr. Li Zhengdao, a well-known Chinese-American physicist and Nobel laureate, sent a message to China's high-energy physics cause on October 10: "I sincerely wish that the motherland's high-energy physics cause will flourish and develop healthily, and Chinese scientists will make more world-class original achievements."

The academic lecture meeting of the "Scientific Giant Tianyu Explanation - The High Energy Physics Branch of the Chinese Physical Society Celebrates the Ninety-fifth Birthday of Mr. Li Zhengdao" was held on the same day at the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), and Mr. Li Zhengdao made the above statement in a written message sent.

He said, "The high-energy basic physics research in the motherland has achieved a series of important international influence results in the past 30 years. Looking back at the development history of bepc (Beijing positron-negative electron collider), we can see that the successful construction and operation of bepc, bes (Beijing spectrometer), Daya Bay neutrino experimental device and high-altitude cosmic ray observatory (lhaaso) has laid a good foundation for basic research in high-energy physics in China, not only bringing the basic research of the motherland into the ranks of international competition, but also cultivating a large number of key talents, and promoting the rapid development of basic research in high-energy physics in multiple frontier directions."

Li Zhengdao said that basic research is the embodiment of the country's comprehensive strength and the foundation of the country, "Comrade Xiaoping clearly pointed out that 'China, such a country, must occupy a place in the field of high technology', and basic research 'reflects the ability of a nation, but also a symbol of the prosperity and development of a nation and a country'. I sincerely wish that the motherland's high-energy physics cause will flourish and develop healthily, and Chinese scientists will make more world-class original achievements."

According to the Institute of High Energy of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Li Zhengdao was born in Shanghai on November 24, 1926. He went to the United States in 1946 for further study, received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1950, joined the faculty at Columbia University in 1953, was appointed as a professor in 1956, and became a professor at the university level in 1984.

In 1957, Li Zhengdao won the Nobel Prize in Physics for co-discovering the law of non-conservation of cosmology in weak interactions with Yang Zhenning. He has also proposed the Lie model, the kln (Kinoshita-Lee-Norenburg) theorem, and has made outstanding achievements in many disciplines such as quantum field theory, elementary particle theory, nuclear physics, statistical mechanics, fluid mechanics, astrophysics, condensed matter physics, and quantum mechanics.

Since 1972, Mr. Li Zhengdao has successively proposed the opening of junior classes, lectures for Chinese physicists, promoted Sino-US cooperation in high-energy physics, established the Sino-US joint recruitment of physics graduate students (CUSPEA) project, advocated the establishment of a Chinese postdoctoral system, vigorously promoted the National Natural Science Foundation system, established the China Advanced Science and Technology Center (ccast), promoted the Beijing positron-negative electron collider, set up the Shuzheng Fund, etc., for China's science and technology, It has made outstanding contributions to education and talent training.

Mr. Li Zhengdao is an academician of the American Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Italian Academy of Sciences; an honorary professor of Peking University, Tsinghua University, University of Science and Technology of China, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, etc.; and an honorary doctorate from more than a dozen universities such as Princeton University, Rockefeller University, City University of New York, Columbia University, University of Bologna in Italy, University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom, Peking University in China, Lanzhou University, Nanjing University, etc. (End)
