At the end of 2014, Mr. Li Zhengdao proposed the establishment of an international scientific research institute at Shanghai Jiaotong University, benchmarking the Bohr Institute in the 1920s and engaging in cutting-edge scientific research in physics and astronomy. Today, the launching ceremony of the construction of the experimental building of the Lee Zheng Dao Research Institute was held in Zhangjiang Science City.

The experimental building of Li Zhengdao Research Institute has a total construction area of 56,000 square meters, connecting the two experimental buildings in the north and south with a glass sphere, which takes the characteristics of the universe as the design concept, transparent and bright, and brews the collision spark of science and art. Li Zhengdao Research Institute introduced that while ensuring that the space is bright and open, this sphere shared space has also adopted energy-saving and environmental protection designs such as local shading and ventilation windows, and part of the winter heating of the sphere will come from the waste heat recovered by the Scientific Computing Center. The experimental building has now built a dark matter and neutrino experimental platform, a topological superconducting quantum computing experimental platform, a laboratory astrophysics experimental platform and a public computing platform.

Zhang Jie, director of the Lee Zheng Dao Research Institute, said that the original intention of the Lee Zheng Dao Research Institute is to focus on building a world-renowned source of major original innovation, a gathering place for top scientific elites yearning from all over the world, and a holy place for young scientists to realize their dreams. With the reorganization of teachers and students into the experimental building of the Lee Zheng Dao Research Institute, the Lee Zheng Dao Research Institute has entered a new stage of development.
At the launching ceremony, Mr. Li Zhengdao's eldest son Li Zhongqing and eldest grandson Li Shanshi read congratulatory letters and congratulatory speeches on behalf of Mr. Li Zhengdao respectively. Mr. Li Zhengdao wrote that he was very touched by the fact that the infrastructure construction work was still advancing in an orderly manner despite the epidemic.

The Surging News (www.thepaper.cn) reporter learned from Shanghai Jiao Tong University that in November 2016, the Li Zhengdao Research Institute was formally established in Shanghai Jiaotong University, after nearly five years of construction and development, the Li Zhengdao Research Institute has gathered a number of academic masters led by the research team, attracted a group of young talents with vitality in scientific and technological innovation, carried out original basic research in a number of cutting-edge fields, and the construction of experimental platforms is also steadily advancing. In addition, Frank Wilczek, founding director of the Lee Jeong-do Research Institute, Nobel Prize winner and foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, will serve as the chief scientist of the Lee Jeong-do Research Institute.
