In recent years, through the transformation of the south-to-north water diversion, water has been released into the Tuotuo River on a regular basis to replenish groundwater. There is water in the Tuotuo River, and the groundwater level in our surrounding villages has risen, which has certain favorable conditions for irrigation of our farmland.
Originally, with the completion of the south-to-north water diversion project, starting in 2018, Hebei Province systematically planned to implement ecological water replenishment of rivers and lakes, and launched the pilot work of groundwater recharge in the three rivers of The Tuotuo River, Fuyang River and South Juma River, and from September last year to the end of August this year, the total amount of water replenished by the three rivers was 1.4 billion cubic meters, of which 870 million cubic meters was the water from the Han River in Hubei. This has raised the groundwater level in Zhoujiazhuang Village to 34.51 meters, and the Tuotuo River has regained its turquoise waves.
Nanshui nourishes not only rice. Villagers in Zhoujiazhuang Village used to draw water by drilling wells. At first, it was 50 meters, and then it was 80 meters or even 200 meters. Now, with the water table rising significantly, it is no longer a problem for residents to use water.
Wang Jinhua, member of the party branch of Zhoujiazhuang Village in Zhengding County, Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, also introduced that the previous water quality was not good, containing a lot of water rust, and the draft water was not up to standard. Now the quality of the water has improved significantly, and after testing by the water conservancy department, the water quality has reached the standard of high-quality water.
In the five years since the south-to-north water diversion project was opened, more than 25.5 billion cubic meters of water has been transferred to the north. Nanshui has become the main water source of more than 20 large and medium-sized cities in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and Henan, with stable water quality reaching or better than category II. surface water, and directly benefiting more than 58.59 million people along the route.
