Seicho Matsumoto (Seicho Matsumoto, December 21, 1909-August 4, 1992), Japanese mystery artist.

Matsumoto Kiyoharu was born on December 21, 1909 to a family of traders in Kokura, Kitakyushu. In 1950, he began his creative career, and his representative works include "Points and Lines", "Partition Wall has Eyes", "Zero Focus", "Japan's Black Mist", "The Price of Women", "Villains", "Sandware", "The Painter Who Murdered Lovers", etc., and has won many awards such as the Ryunosuke Wasagawa Award. On August 4, 1992, Kiyoharu Matsumoto died of liver cancer at the age of 82.
Kiyoharu Matsumoto pioneered "social reasoning", which, along with Edogawa Andō Shoshi and Yokomichi Masashi, were the "three peaks of Japanese reasoning". Mystery novelists such as Keigo Higashino, Miyuki Miyabe, and Jun Cai were deeply influenced by it.
"Kiyoharu Matsumoto is the writer who has influenced my creative career the most." --Japanese writer Keigo Higashino
Matsumoto Kiyoharu's father, Minetaro, was the eldest son of the Tanaka clan in the village of Yato (now Yato, Nichinan-cho), Tottori Prefecture, and was adopted as an adopted son by Matsumoto Mikichi of Yonako Town (now Yonago City) in Nishibe County, today. His father, Minetaro, was half-dead and displaced from the lower middle class to earn a living. Pulled rickshaws, sold mochi and red bean cake marbles soda bean skin sushi, opened a snack bar and poured down, and used to help customers put shoes in the clothing store. The poor couple mourns, and the wife Ah Gu is always busy cleaning up the aftermath for her husband who is full of troubles. As an only child, Kiyoharu grew up in the dark alley house where "in the winter, the cold wind pours through the gaps in the wooden walls, and the powder snow rises on the quilt that covers his head", and the only thing that can accompany him is the old grandmother who works all day long and eventually goes blind.
Matsumoto Kiyoharu's early works can be summarized into two categories: First, historical novels, such as "Saigo Banknotes", "Obituary Copy", "Warring States Conspiracy" and other works have a high artistic standard. The second is to portray the characters in adversity, with their life path and failed fate as the center, showing their noble and painful spiritual trajectory, and writing the true side of real life, representative works such as "A Biography of "A Certain "Kokura Diary", "Chrysanthemum Pillow" and so on.
Another feature of Matsumoto's works is that there is no rendering of violence and pornography, allowing the reader to calmly enjoy the pleasure of logical reasoning. If the earnest lament he made in his early works was only a general voice of the times and the whole society, then in the later period, he had a clearer understanding of the times in which he lived, and found the target of criticism. He pushed speculative fiction out of the box of detective solving, and for the first time used the history of the American occupation of Japan as the main narrative subject.
In the Japanese literary circles, there has long been the saying of the "Qingzhang Revolution.". The "Kiyoharu Revolution" originally referred to Matsumoto Kiyoharu's complete transformation of Japanese speculative fiction, so that speculative fiction, which was originally a pompous, popular, and strong game genre, became thick and serious. The "Qingzhang Revolution" established the unshakable orthodoxy of the "social faction" in the field of speculative fiction for decades, and foreshadowed the pioneering space of many sub-genre genres of speculative fiction later.
"Matsumoto Kiyoharu has been the champion of Japan's best-selling author for more than twenty years, but 'best-selling' is not necessarily equal to 'popular', Matsumoto Kiyoharu has never been the 'most popular' writer in Japan, because it is too real, and the Japanese generally do not want outsiders to see Japan and understand Japan through Matsumoto's pen." Kiyoharu Matsumoto restored my faith in literature's intervention in society and in reforming society. ”
