Hua Yiwei (1933-2006): A native of Haoshui County, Hubei Province, born in Tianjin to a medical family, former chief physician of the General Hospital of the Beijing Military Region, standing committee member of the Surgical Society of the Chinese Medical Association, enjoying special government allowances. After 56 years of practicing medicine, he has always been very responsible for his career like Bethune, pouring his life's energy into the medical career, and in 2006, he was named the Person of the Year by CCTV's "Moving China" column.
I have done so many surgeries before, but I do not have a deep understanding of the pain of postoperative patients, I did not expect the situation to be so serious, I did not expect that patients would be so painful...
These are the words left by the famous doctor Hua Yiwei before he died, and this is also the last warning he left to the world.
Hua Yiwei is one of the first batch of 8-year medical graduates in New China, and is also an old doctor who still does many surgeries every year after retirement. The memories of people around him are: before the patient is examined at dawn, he always rubs his hands warmly, heats the stethoscope, and exposes the patient's body as little as possible; before operating on the patient, he always waits for the patient at the elevator entrance to let the patient see the doctor before anesthesia.
How do doctors face death?
They are also patients, but out of professional habit, they may still be thinking about the disease. Hua Yiwei's dying feelings also make us realize the limited facts of modern medicine.
If it can be cured, then try to cure my patients, if it can't be cured, then try to alleviate their pain, if nothing can be done, let them feel that we are doing our best to help them with reverence for life.
For example, Dr. Hua Yiwei, he makes people awe-inspired. On July 25, 2005, the operating room was as quiet as usual, Director Hua completed a case of goiter removal surgery, the patient was saved, but Hua Yiwei fell ill.
Perhaps the patient did not know that the 73-year-old Director Hua was in the advanced stage of stomach cancer at this time, and he was performing the duties of a doctor with the disease, which was also the last operation that Director Hua did.
Told the patient who made the appointment that I couldn't operate on him anymore.
Hua Yiwei, who has been practicing medicine for decades, asks colleagues to express his guilt to patients on the sickbed.
Hua Yiwei was hospitalized for stomach cancer in July 2005, and underwent total gastrectomy surgery and chemotherapy in August, and developed intestinal obstruction.
During that time, his meal volume suddenly decreased, digestion was poor, after checking the body, he immediately diagnosed himself with stomach cancer, further examination found that it had reached the advanced stage of cancer, Hua Yiwei had to accept routine treatment, did a total gastric resection.
However, after the operation, Hua Yiwei's reflux was particularly serious, the esophagus always burned painfully, the throat was often choked and inflamed, and even the eustachian tube was stimulated very painfully, and people could only lie half lying down. The pain of total gastrectomy was not over, the next pain followed, in order to control the spread of cancer cells, he underwent intra-abdominal heat chemotherapy, chemotherapy twice a week, a total of 8 times in a month.
During the chemotherapy, Hua Yiwei vomited particularly badly, unable to eat, and could only rely on nasogastric tubes to infuse some nutrient solution, which he and his family believed was a reaction to chemotherapy, and they could resume eating after carrying it.
Old partner Zhang Yanrong said:
He originally had a good foundation of his body, and his weight was still maintained well after the first surgery, and if he did not do chemotherapy, he slowly resumed his diet, and may be able to recover better, but chemotherapy completely destroyed him.
▲ Old partner Zhang Yanrong took care of Hua Yiwei in the illness
Unexpectedly, greater pain is quietly approaching Hua Yiwei, chemotherapy ended two or three weeks, Hua Yiwei is still nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal angiography found that there has been ileal intestinal obstruction, with the intestinal obstruction getting worse and worse, and then even the stool is gone, bloating, vomiting is more serious, not only did not restore the diet, even nasal feed nutrient solution can not go in.
Under the torment of the disease, Hua Yiwei developed a state of cardiac insufficiency, generalized edema, liver and kidney function.
In January 2006, he underwent surgery for intestinal obstruction, which failed, resulting in complications such as abdominal infection. Intestinal fluid flows into the abdominal cavity, causing serious infection, and the intestines are impossible to recover, so even if there is no cancer, it is difficult for people to survive. Later, Hua Yiwei's body was completely exhausted, the hospital arranged a special care team for him, and Hua Yiwei was transferred from the iCU ward back to the hepatobiliary surgery department, and he said to his comrades-in-arms:
My illness is no longer able to return to heaven, don't use expensive drugs, let me alleviate the pain a little, and save the country a little.
This is the last request made by Hua Yiwei, who has never made any demands to the organization in his life.
At that time, the postoperative Hua Yiwei was full of tubes, tubes with intravenous fluids, because he could not eat any food, so he was supported by various nutrient solutions; there were tracheostomy catheters to help breathe; each tube was put together by two tubes to prevent infection when the fluid in the tube was displaced; and urinary catheters.
In the last days of his life, Hua Yiwei said to the doctor who gave him a plasma transfusion more than once:
Don't lose, don't waste any more.
When Hua Yiwei died in August 2006, he left in this way, and the whole process made him miserable.
In the past, when treating other stomach cancer patients, Hua Yiwei also used total gastrectomy surgery, but since he himself underwent total gastrectomy surgery and suffered great pain, he began to reflect deeply on the method of gastric cancer treatment.
At that time, there was a stomach disease patient living in the ward, and Hua Yiwei was very concerned about his condition.
One day, Elder Hua deliberately found his comrade-in-arms Yu Conghui and said:
Wisdom, the treatment of this patient should be considered, total gastrectomy brings not only the problem of eating, but also the problem of postoperative reflux, etc., do total gastric resection, the patient suffers too much pain, and when gastric resection is done later, it can not be completely resected.
Yu Conghui remembered that Hua Yiwei deliberately used his hands to compare and said: "Even if you leave a little stomach is better than full resection, the patient is not so painful." ”
When Hua Yiwei was transformed from a doctor into a patient, he had a new understanding of this medical problem from the patient's point of view:
As a physician, when it comes to choosing between quality of life and disease, it is mainly about which side benefits the patient more. If the patient lives for a year and a half after total gastrectomy, but the patient has to spend in pain, and the gastric insufficiency can live for one year, but the patient can live happily and fully, then he prefers to choose the latter.
Yu Conghui said that at that time, Director Hua often said to her in a heavy tone:
We who are doctors cannot simply treat diseases, but treat sick patients.
Later, we accepted Director Hua's suggestion, in the treatment of future gastric cancer patients, improved the method of surgery, can not be incised as much as possible, must be completely resected, but also improved the surgical style, find a way to drain the bile and intestinal fluid, so that it reduces upward reflux, and find a way to use the intestine to shape the stomach of the offspring, so that the food can still stay in the stomach, so that the patient is much more comfortable.
How nutrition regulates disease
Many people's biggest mistake is that their bodies are broken, they don't need raw materials to repair, they don't need nutrients to repair, and they only rely on drugs to repair. But our bodies are not made of drugs, but of nutrients; such repairs are unreasonable, the effect is not good, and it is impossible to succeed.
First, nutrition is the source of life
So let's look at the fact that if a healthy person doesn't eat any food for 10 days, what do you say happens?
There is no doubt that this person is likely to die, and the main things that people use to sustain life, in addition to air and water, are mainly the nutrition of food that gives life to people.
Nutrition is the source of life, from the formation of human embryo to the end of human life, nutrition nourishes human life all the time, which is the relationship between "nutrition and life".
Second, drugs control some diseases
Look at those around us who suffer from diseases: high blood pressure, diabetes, severe insomnia, cancer, etc., in the face of these chronic diseases, can drugs cure the disease?
At present, the most drugs are to control these chronic diseases within a certain range, which is already good.
Third, nutrition repair cells
What can really make yourself recover is definitely not a drug, many components of the drug are not the ingredients needed for cell repair, and once you give enough time, give enough nutrients, such as proteins, vitamins, minerals, fats, etc., these human body composition needs materials, the human body will start the process of self-repair.
As long as the nutrition is sufficient, the damaged organs continue to "metabolize" and "repair themselves" through the cells, and after a period of time, the damaged tissues and organs will be "softly replaced", resulting in "new" tissues and organs, and many diseases have the opportunity to completely recover.
Many people's biggest mistake is that the body is broken, do not use raw materials to repair, do not use nutrients to repair, but only rely on drugs to repair, but our body is not made of drugs, but made of nutrients, so it is unreasonable to repair, it is difficult to succeed.
What each part of our body looks like, the body knows best, remembered in the genes (dna) of tissue cells, the body has the ability to repair damage, but you have to provide it with high-quality raw materials, high-quality nutrients.
For example, trauma caused by liver rupture, after timely surgery, supplementation with sufficient nutrients, according to the liver's genetic code, generally 1-2 months, you can synthesize, a liver exactly the same as the original, the hand is broken, adequate nutrition when a week to grow well, fractured, for a good position of three months can grow well.
If the nutrients in the body are insufficient, your cells, blood, and blood vessels cannot be healthy, your nervous system, immune system, etc. will be abnormal one after another, every organ of yours will be damaged, and you will be plagued by various diseases.
So balanced nutrition is very important, its importance far exceeds the imagination of many people, nutrients can prevent diseases, balanced nutrition is the foundation of health, which is also the pillar of health.

Disease is a phenomenon, if you can find the essence of the disease, you can cure the disease.
It is not right for us to give our lives entirely to drugs, medicine only plays an auxiliary role, and many diseases cannot be cured with drugs. Mr. Han Qide, dean of Peking University School of Medicine, said that drugs only have an 8% effect.
We are not denying medicine and medicine, but advocating for the proper use of them. Western medicine is very good at rescue and control, but its role in chronic diseases and terminal diseases is very limited.
Because Western medicine or medicine treats the flesh, the root cause of some chronic diseases and terminal illnesses is in the soul, so we must heal through the method of health maintenance and heart nourishment.
Illness, another form of heavenly love, is a reminder to come back from our mistakes. When we stand at the level of life, we will find that disease is just an illusion, because "there is no disease under the world."
