Hua Yiwei: A person who is worthy of the patient's trust in life

Hua Yiwei, former director of the First Department of The General Hospital of the Beijing Military Region, often heard patients say this before his death. Today, the successor of the "good military doctor of the people" is fighting the battle against the new crown pneumonia epidemic.

Hua Yiwei is a native of Tianjin, joined the army in 1953, participated in major tasks such as supporting the Tibetan medical team and the earthquake relief in Haicheng and Tangshan, served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Surgical Society of the Chinese Medical Association, a member of the General Foreign Professional Group of the Medical Science and Technology Committee of the Whole Army, and was rated as a "meritorious expert in educating talents" by the former Beijing Military Region.

Hua Yiwei came from a family of medicine and graduated from Peking Union Medical College. For 56 years, he has been engaged in clinical work in general surgery, and has a deep understanding of the treatment of gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, thyroid, breast, pediatric general and portal hypertension, and enjoys a high reputation in the general surgery community inside and outside the military.

Hua Yiwei strives for excellence in technology and is superb in medical skills. According to statistics, he has had tens of thousands of surgeries in decades, without a single accident or error. Looking at his surgical records, the vast majority of them were roll call surgeries by patients. In the surgical community, Hua Yiwei is known for his exquisite and delicate surgery, no matter how complicated and difficult the operation is, he can achieve calm operation, clear layers and scientific disposal.

Hua Yiwei practiced medicine with clean and clean clothes. He is a famous "Hua Yi Knife" inside and outside the military, and he has never taken a red envelope in his life. He said: "It is the duty of a doctor to practice medicine with integrity, and it is not worthy to be a doctor at all to receive red envelopes for greed and profit." ”

Hua Yiwei puts the interests of patients first. He never prescribes large prescriptions, uses expensive drugs, does expensive examinations that have little significance, can save patients a point, and do his best to reduce the financial burden of patients. Every time he sutured for major surgery, he tried not to use the expensive stapler and insisted on carefully suturing one stitch after another.

In Hua Yiwei's eyes, patients only have the severity of their illness, and there is no difference in status. Whether it is a peasant or a senior cadre, whether it is a soldier or a general, Hua Yiwei treats everyone equally and treats him with care. Many patients come from out of town, often visiting the home during work and holidays, and he squeezes out a 9-square-meter hut in his home as a family volunteer clinic, and the most striking picture in the room is a photograph of Bethune bending down to perform surgery on the wounded of the Eighth Route Army.

After Hua Yiwei retired, he still fought in the clinical frontline, personally performing more than 100 surgeries every year. At the age of 73, he endured stomach cancer and successfully operated on a thyroid tumor for a patient who collapsed in front of the operating table. He left a will: "Autopsy after death, specimens of value for medical research can be retained, no farewell to the body, no ashes." ”

On August 12, 2006, Hua Yiwei died of illness. All walks of life and countless patients have expressed their respect and love for him through various channels and different forms.

Hua Yiwei was awarded the third class meritorious service twice, and was rated as "excellent communist party member", "lei feng pacesetter", "quality service pacesetter" and "advanced individual of medical ethics" by his superiors more than 30 times, and was elected as the first "national moral model" and awarded the "Bethune Medal".
