The Shunzhi Emperor was the first emperor after the Qing army entered the customs. He ascended the throne at the age of 6, reigned for 18 years, and disappeared after the age of 24. People often discuss that 24 years old is the best age in the emperor's life, if the Shunzhi Emperor is alive, why doesn't he continue to take charge of Weibing? If the Shunzhi Emperor died suddenly in this year, what caused the emperor to collapse prematurely?

Shunzhi was only 6 years old when he ascended the throne, and he reigned for only 18 years, but he left too many clouds for history. As the first young emperor to enter the customs, the young emperor had no power or ability to govern at all. Although he had the name of the Son of Heaven, Shunzhi was unable to practice the emperor for a long time. At a young age, the government was run by the regent Dorgon. And Dolgun was in charge of the flag people, and he was also a high-ranking lord, of course, he did not take Shunzhi's yellow haired boy in his eyes.

After the sudden death of Emperor Taiji, Dorgon had the idea of competing with Hauge for the throne. However, Xiaozhuang eventually came forward, relying on the support of Prince Daishan of Li and Prince Halang of Ji, and elected Fu Lin (Shunzhi) to the throne. But Dorgon was not reconciled, and said, "If you regard me as the king, and if you are in the throne of the present, why do I have this disease?", and the words were full of complaints and dissatisfaction.

During the regency of Dorgon, his title also changed from the original "regent" to the later "regent of the emperor's father", which is said to have originated from the "certain relationship" between empress dowager Xiaozhuang and Dorgon. The Shunzhi Emperor could not achieve anything, and there was even an extra "father emperor" who was directly controlling him for no reason, which was enough to make Xiao Tianzi Long Yan angry. But Shunzhi was still young, and his mother fought fiercely with the "father emperor", and Xiao Shunzhi, who had no one to help, could only knock out his teeth and swallow in his stomach.

In the winter of the seventh year of Shunzhi (1650), the powerful regent finally died on a hunting trip to northern Xinjiang. Regarding the death of Dorgon, the history books record it like this: "The regent Prince Dorgon fell in the city of Kara, and the Chinese New Year's Eve nine. The official wording is so simple and condensed that it can't help but lead to the reverie of others. At that time, a book "Journey to the North" restored it to the effect that Dorgon was infected by a knee injury and eventually died outside. No matter how Dorgon died, the Shunzhi Emperor was finally able to taste power for the first time.

In 1651, Shunzhi finally ushered in the first "pro-government" in his life. Shunzhi is different from the traditional Manchus, he is free to read the Four Books and Five Classics, and his mind is full of Confucian principles of "governing the country and the family and the world". He himself once wore a Han-style costume in the palace, and also wore a Ming-style crown imperial robe, which was quite deviant.
Old royalty such as Dorgon represented the interests of the Manchus, who grew up in Manchuria and had no special affection for the Han and Central Plains cultures. Unlike the Shunzhi Emperor, he had established his authority by liquidating Dolgun and trying the Manchurian noble enclosure case. From an early age, Shunzhi studied arithmetic and astronomy with the missionary John Tang, and was particularly interested in Western mathematical knowledge. With the help of a group of courtiers, the Shunzhi Emperor finally sat firmly on the throne.

Empress Xiaozhuang arranged two empresses for Shunzhi, but none of these Manchu and Mongol ladies pleased the emperor. The Shunzhi Emperor later fell in love with Princess Dong'e, the daughter of Eshuo (but by this time Dong Efei was already someone else's wife), because Dong had followed her father on a southern expedition in her youth and was familiar with the orthodox scholar culture, and Dong Efei must have been gentler and virtuous than the northern women who had been in the deep palace for a long time.

Concubine Dong's relationship with the emperor was on fire. Emperor Dong Efei almost forgot himself, and it is said that the emperor repeatedly proposed to Xiaozhuang that after his abolition, he would set up the Dong clan as the main chamber. Shunzhi also held a ceremony for the Dong clan to show respect and cherish her. According to the practice of the Qing Dynasty, only the emperor canonize the empress to the world. The Shunzhi Emperor tossed and turned several times, making Xiaozhuang quite unhappy.

The weather is unpredictable. Not many years later, Concubine Dong died of excessive grief over the loss of her son. The Shunzhi Emperor was very sad and ordered the Ministry of Rites to prepare a funeral for Concubine Dong, and also asked the university scholar Jin Zhijun to write the Biography of Empress Dong. Even if Shunzhi liked Concubine Dong again, he really shouldn't have set up an "empress biography" for concubines. Perhaps the Shunzhi Emperor was really romantic, which can be seen from the emperor's openness to sinology and western studies.

The death of Concubine Dong devastated Shunzhi. Just after the spring of the eighteenth year of Shunzhi (1661), the emperor suddenly fell ill and lay on the bed for seven consecutive days, and indeed he had an emergency. At the end of the great calamity, the emperor hastily summoned Wang Xiqian, a servant of the Rebbe, to receive the edict. In his last will, Shunzhi wrote a special book about the mistakes he made during his reign, hoping to be forgiven by the world. This can't help but arouse the doubts of future generations.

In particular, there is a sentence in the testament: "Empress Duanjing (Concubine Dong E) performed filial piety to the empress dowager, assisted in the decay, and repaired the internal affairs." Worshiping Ci Lun, remembering the virtuous, mourning the ceremony, being too generous, failing to stop the affection with etiquette, and failing to collapse in all things, the sin of decay is also one. "This means that I love Concubine Dong too much, and I feel guilty for doing funerals for her beyond the rank and scale, so much so that I offend the number of ceremonies."
It is unlikely that Shunzhi's love for the noble concubine would say such a thing. Moreover, according to the records, it took 4 hours from the death of the emperor to the issuance of the edict! If it were not for the fact that someone really revised the edict during this period, this matter could not be explained, so some people speculated that "there must be a love affair between the empress dowager and the kings who have changed it at their discretion." If the speculation is true, then the Shunzhi Emperor's false death ordination is even more debatable.

There has always been a legend that the Shunzhi Emperor died in Jialan, but such a statement has not been valued by historians because of its strong legend. There is no conclusive decision on which temple Shunzhi was ordained. But the most famous theory is that the emperor was ordained wutaishan, which was widely circulated because it was quoted by Jin Yong's "Deer Ding Ji" and Liang Yu's "Seven Swords Under the Heavenly Mountain".
According to legend, in the first month of the eighteenth year of Shunzhi (1661), the emperor was sullen and unhappy because of the death of Concubine Dong E, so he gradually grew tired of court life. Because of the increasing contact with the monks, the idea of abandoning the throne and going to Mount Wutai was born. The novel also records that the Kangxi Emperor was ordered by the empress dowager to go out on a tour to Mount Wutai under the pretext of looking for his father Fulin. Dong Efei's best Dharma before she died, if Shunzhi really escaped into the monk's door, it would also be in line with the nostalgia of an infatuated emperor for aifei.

In particular, the "Records of the Monks of the Month of the Pilgrimage of the Zengo luan" also records the dialogue between the Shunzhi Emperor and the monks of the luan. On October 27, the seventeenth year of Shunzhi (1660), Shunzhi said: "Shunzhi often made a wish before the Buddha: to be born in the Pure Land early, to return to Pasa, just because of renunciation, early enlightenment, for the sake of Linji Zhenzong, the beginning of the wish." The monk advised Shunzhi not to be angry, but to "present himself as an emperor and act as a bodhisattva." But according to Shunzhi's personality, I am afraid that he will not listen.

The Shunzhi Emperor was strictly controlled from an early age, so he formed a romantic character of "the more depressed and the more rebellious". He dared to fight against Dorgon and Xiaozhuang, who had suppressed him, and had to win victory every time before giving up. Therefore, with Shunzhi's personality, it is actually reasonable that he made the move of "abandoning his position and becoming a monk". However, according to the records of the zhengshi, the death of the Shunzhi Emperor was too urgent, and was there also a mystery in it? This should be reassuring to everyone, because if according to the history of Zhengshi, the emperor had smallpox before his death, the lethality of smallpox is very strong, suffering from smallpox, as little as three or five days, more than a week of death, Shunzhi due to widowhood grief excessive, the body immunity dropped significantly, resulting in the final infection of smallpox, presumably it makes sense.
